Just finished off Aldi's finest select Traditional Irish Ale. It was actually very nice, good hop taste and not overly expensive!

Sampling "Strong Suffolk vintage ale" this evening , a Greene King brewery product.

It's a blend of two ales: Old 5X , which is brewed to the maximum strength possible (around 12% abv) and left to mature in 100-barrel oak vats for a minimum of two years, and BPA, a dark, full-bodied freshly brewed beer which is added just before bottling.

Quite nice if you like ales. Very fruity and spicy in my opinion and strong ! Feel the alcohol hitting me already after 2 glasses.

Inspired by this thread I have been trying new beers this week. First off was Budvar. It had a nice strong hoppy smell but not too overpowering. Tasted similar with a certain smoothness to it. Trying Spaten tonight. More of a pronounced barley flavour which I prefer. Very clean and crisp taste with a present after-taste. Typical german purity really! It came a close second to Hofbrau of Munich also. I loved the mixture of complex flavours and aromas. the nicest beer i have tasted thus far. How do some people drink bud and other crap like it:rolleyes:

Without sounding like a complete cheapo i'm drinking Bavaria tonight. Just made the dinner and i find it compliments a tasty burger brilliantly. It's crisp and not sharp. A nice beer nonetheless.

Some new beers in The Abbot's, Cork so will be sampling:

Arbo 8.1% 'Belgian 4 hops amber triple beer'
Magnus Belgoo 6.6% '4 grains beer'
Luppoo 6.5% 'Artisanal Belgian dry hopped 2 grains beer'

    All from Belgoobeer.com
Never tried any of the above before - will report back.

    Also got:

Gordon Finest Scotch Highland Ale 8% 'Strong brown beer with a warm ruby glitter' This is a Belgian beer in a Scottish style - used to like it when I lived in Antwerp, served in a thistle shpaped glass!

Nostradamus 9% 'Belgian Paradise Beer' Had this before and remember it as being hugely complex and strange but nice.

St. Bernardusb Abt 12 10% 'Bottle fermented Abbey Ale' Pretty sure I've had this before - dark, dark, strong, warming beer.

    I have work to do!!:D

It also used to be sold in cans to alcos in the UK, badged as Kestrel Super :D No it didn't. Finest Gold did.

Are you not talking about Kestrel Super, the 9% strong lager brewed in Bedford, UK as opposed to the 8% dark ale, brewed in Belgium?
Gordon's Platinum is pretty horrible, but I do like the Scotch!

as opposed to the 8% dark ale, brewed in Belgium?
Sorry -- you're right :o. It's Gordon's Finest Gold (10% ABV; green bottle; reviewed here) that used to be Kestrel Super. You're talking about the one with the tartan label, right?

Today I shall be trying Crabbie's Ginger Beer. I like ginger, I like beer, I fail to see how this could go wrong.

By Crabbie's tasting of neither. I strongly advise getting hold of some Williams Brothers Ginger to follow this and get rid of the awful taste. It actually does taste of ginger and beer.

In case anyone finds this beer and are thining about getting some , I would advise against it. Fairly average beer to be honest. Might be a good beer to drink in hotter climates as quite light.

Tried the arbo and the luppo - not very inspiring really, not bad but rather ordinary Belgians!

yeah, lithuanian beers are the best and svyturys is the best in Lithuania so it's the best of the best :D You should also try svyturys wheat baltas, cold with a slice of lemon - it's heaven!
