Best 205/55 R16 tyres?

    Hi Folks,
I'm running a set of factory fit 205/55 R16 Bridgestone Turanzas on an Octavia.

Despite reasonable grip in the dry, road noise is shocking, even on motorways and the ride quality sucks.

I've considered going up 'in profile' to a 60 but am worried about the effect this would have on the speedo reading and clearence when fully loaded.

Could anyone recommend a quieter, more comfortable tyre?

All Michelins are comfortable, silent and pricey

I would suggest yokohama C drive or nokian H for good brand with reasonable price. They might be hard to find.

If you are looking for budget tyres, kumhos ecsta series are ok for road noise.

don't forget less noise=softer tyre=less mileage than bridgestone

There is 3.2% difference in diameter between 205/55/16 and 205/60/16. It is not a big deal but more than 2% difference is not recommended.

I don't think there will be huge difference in comfort with this change. I would stick to factory fitted size with softer tyres for comfort.

    Good luck

Have a look at the Dunlop sport 01. I have them on my passat at the moment. Less noisey than the bridgestone. My favourite tyre would have to be good year. Best grip by a mile. When it comes to tyres it's one area I refuse to go cheap on...

These are a good tyre, had them on a Focus and found them quiet enough:
