I called out 'mixed black woman as a term that is unclear and not widely accepted.

Got evidence it's not widely accepted? Got links etc? Or is that opinion?

There is clear evidence in the US that there are racial dating preferences:
...For example, a study published last year in Social Science Research examined 1,558 profiles that white daters living in or near big U.S. cities placed on Yahoo! Personals, which, much like Match, lists 10 racial and ethnic groups users can select as preferred dates. Among the women, 73% stated a preference. Of these, 64% selected whites only, while fewer than 10% included East Indians, Middle Easterners, Asians or blacks.

The story is a little different for the men, 59% of whom stated a racial preference. Of these, nearly half selected Asians, but fewer than 7% did for black women. Why? One theory offered by the study's lead author, Cynthia Feliciano, a sociologist at the University of California at Irvine, is that men's choices are influenced by the media's portrayal of Asian women as being hypersexual and black women as being bossy.

The people running OkCupid.com have a less nuanced explanation. In October, the free dating site, 80% of whose members choose to input their race, studied the messaging patterns of more than a million users and concluded on its official blog that "racism is alive and well."...

I read a thing on interracial dating a while back that said it was going:

    Black man - White woman

    White man - Asian Women

Poor Asian men and Black women, nobody wants them:(;)

Apparently the reverse of those trends (white man - black woman, Asian man - White woman) is extremely rare.

It also said that white women were the 'favorite race' of all types of women.
They really are coming for our wimmins:p

Asian men and black women seriously need to hook up! I've only ever seen this combination once in Dublin. Kid and all with both features.

It's all opinion at the end of the day. Attractive women tend to rise to the top in the entertainment industry. Look at the top people in entertainment who are not classed as Caucasian. It's a subjective opinion but my opinion is the same as hers in believing white men tend to be more attracted to women with a lighter hue of dark skin.

That's one hell of a generalisation

Nope. A generalisation would be to state that "white men aren't attracted to black women unless they're already mixed" (implying all white men). Saying that "a lot of white men aren't attracted to black women unless they're already mixed" is simply a statement of opinion (or possibly fact).

This is After Hours, not a courtroom

A child of black/white parents would be referred to as biracial, or mixed race. One can equally apply mixed-black and mixed-white, demonstrating that the term is redundant. The term is unclear. It is never used. The person is both black and white: biracial. It's clear enough.

Does this really matter? I'm a child of black/white parents, and I am regularly referred to on the street as Brazilian or Arab because nobody knows what the hell I am. I'm thinking this distinction is especially unimportant when it comes to porn. :P

But would it be unreasonable to refer to e.g. Beyoncé (mixed race) as a black woman? I'm pretty sure she identifies herself as black.

Is it though? Barack Obama has a white mother and black father. Is he America's first mixed race president or America's first black president?

Why is most of the porn with black women classed as 'Ebony' porn? I don't see no Ivory porn (unless it's some sort of sick type with elephants) :D

Bill Clinton was the first "black" president.

In the US she wouldn't be considered mixed-race. Her mother is a fair-skinned Creole, the politics of which are way to complicated to go into here, and her father is black.

Racially he is mixed. Socially, culturally and politically he is black.

I'm sure you could find it on the interwebs if you looked for 4 seconds hard enough. :D

I don't think it would be unreasonable at all, it depends what they identify with. I don't have any issue with someone of mixed race identifying as either black or white. I'm just saying you never hear someone called mixed black or mixed white.

Didn't Obama refer to himself as a mutt :p

One can equally apply....... so therefore one must apply neither
What about someone who is more than biracial? What about the child of a black parent and a biracial parent? etc etc etc.

Links? Evidence? DO you see how far we could take this?

White Americans constantly waffle on about their mixed european heritage - "I am 1/4 Irish, 1/8 German, 1/8 French and half Italian". Walking, talking fractions, the yanks.:)

They might not use the term mixed white but the implication is there.

Multiracial/biracial/mixed race are the accepted terms. You can do a search of some scientific resources if you don't believe me.

Imagine what the first few chidren of mixed European parents went through in the States. My parents grew up in the remnants of the 'Irish ghetto' in Chicago, and I often heard the term 'half breed' from their friends when telling stories about growing up.

With the immigration boom in Ireland during the Tiger years, I often wonder if something similar happen in Ireland.

Yeah my mom is from one of those neighborhoods, and dating an Italian (i.e. GANGSTERS!!!) was "inter-racial". And god help you if you even went in the Swede (i.e. PROTESTANTS!!!) family's house...

That was meant in fun. The comment that 'black women are bossy' made me laugh when I saw that.

    LOL

We won't even get into the religious ideology that plagued their communities. Dara O'Briain has a great skit about a mixed Catholic and Protestant wedding where he declares 'you can't have a mixed marriage ....the kids will be freaks !!' lol
