I saw the trailer for this new one around Christmas but it didnt make me think "WOW I cant wait to see that" and I'm not sure why. It kind of looks like Gladiator re-adapted to fit the Robin Hood Storyline or something.

One thing I really dont like is Cate Blanchett as Maid Marian. It got me thinkin then, who would be good in that role? I realise I havent seen the movie yet but I automatically dont like Blanchett for this role :)

However good it is, the Director's cut will probably be better. :D

Sienna Miller was attached to the role first Cate is a major improvement imo ;)

Just a quick tip; see on a poster's "mini profile" to the left of their post? Underneath where it says 'adverts' and 'friends' there is a little white triangular buttom with red trim and an exclamation mark in it. This is the 'report post' button. You can use it to alert the Forum Mods to a post. It's very handy for letting us know about threads that need merging.

They really should have left the Gladiator connection out of the promos tbh

When I saw this trailer for the first time, I immediately thought "Gladiator in Sherwood Forest!"

Also, I doubt that they'll be able to eclipse Alan Rickman's performance as the Sheriff.

I think these two things will stick in the audience's head and the film will not do as well as it could, but I hope I'm wrong....

Also, they wont have a monster hit song on the soundtrack :pac:

I think studios are legally obliged to reference Gladiator in every promo for a Ridley Scott movie. I know, in fairness, it's probably his most successful / well known film amongst modern audiences, but it can ring a little strange.

"From Ridley Scott....director of Gladiator......*sombre music*...."A Good Year" - change to upbeat and whimsical tune.

Nickolas Grace as the Sheriff done a stellar job in the TV series.

Matthew Macfadyen from Spooks is playing the Sheriff in this film not a good choice imo

Costner's Robin Hood film was inspired in a huge way by the excellent Robin of Sherwood.

I hate faith Scott will do a good job on this, I really don't understand all the negativity. He is one of the greatest filmmakers in modern times, in my opinion anyway.

NOTTINGHAM will be rolling out the red carpet for the "man in green" as the city stages the UK premiere of Ridley Scott's new Robin Hood film.
The action-packed movie, starring Russell Crowe as Robin and Cate Blanchett as Maid Marian, will be premiered simultaneously in Nottingham and at the Cannes Film Festival on May 12 – two days before it goes on general release.
Nottingham's gala event will be held at the Cineworld cinema in the Cornerhouse. The organisers are considering staging a live link-up with the Cannes event, where the film is set to open the festival.
"We've pulled off a real coup to host the UK's only gala screening so it's a very significant event for the city," said Sheriff of Nottingham Councillor Leon Unczur.
While Cannes is preparing to play host to the stars of the film, the guests at the Nottingham screening will include city dignitaries and, potentially, famous denizens such as Sir Paul Smith.

Also, hundreds of invited guests will join 100 members of the public – and Nottingham Post readers have a chance of being among them by entering our competition (see panel).
Coun Unczur, who will welcome guests to the special screening, believes the film could bring £50m to Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, as a result of tourism spin-offs.
"The release of the latest Hollywood take on the Robin Hood legend is a really big deal for Nottingham, so I'm pleased we're rolling out the red carpet here to mark the occasion," he said.
"We know that when Hollywood's spotlight shines on Robin, even more people will want to come to Nottingham to see where his legendary stories unfolded."
Currently, Nottingham Castle and Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre are playing host to a joint exhibition of costumes and props from the £110m movie.
The exhibition and premiere have come about as the result of a joint campaign by the city council, Nottinghamshire County Council and Experience Nottinghamshire who pitched the suggestions to filmmakers Universal.
A month-long celebration of the famous outlaw will run in the city and county throughout May to mark the film's release on May 14.
Jennifer Spencer, chief executive at Experience Nottinghamshire, said: "Over the past few months we've seen Nottingham and Notts propelled on to the global media platform.
"This, along with securing an exclusive Robin Hood movie exhibition and gala screening, is down to the strength of the Robin Hood campaign partnership and the hard work of those involved.
"The gala screening will provide the perfect opportunity to celebrate our successes and I'd like to thank everyone for their support."

It looks good but its doesn't look like a robin hood movie.

They are just cashing in on the name, shame the movie looks like it would stand on its own without a robin hood connection. I suppose that its easier to copy somebody elses characters than to invent new ones

that just means it doesnt look like every other robin hood movie which surely is a good thing?

there has yet to be a movie based on the original stories which is anything like them, so maybe this is the one? probably not though

Good God I can barely describe how let down I was by this film.

Crowe And Scott sounded good but the whole story was rushed over inflated with crap and lacking in any substance what so ever.

I never thought a film could make the Kevin Costner version seem good but this does DIRE only just comes close to describing it and it could have been great imho

Only up side FANTASTIC one liners and humour.

But other than that refer to the BBCs recent Robin Hood Series which far out weights this or if you are of a literary persuasion check out how to change the legend with the Hood series of books from Stephen Lawhead

Yeah, +1, went to see it last night...what a horrible film. Hard to know what was the most ridiculous scene but my award goes to
Maid Marian turning up on the beaches of Dover with her army of pygmies on shetland ponies to help fight off the dastardly French

    It was pretty poor alright.
It tries to be Braveheart meets Gladiator but misses the mark widely.

Crowe & Blanchett were both adequate with what they had to work with.
The humor supplied by the Merry Men was good at times.

Needed to be grittier & less cinematic.
The 12A rating doesn't help either.

    Terrible movie. Just awful.

Everyone in the cinema last night was actually laughing at it (not in a good way).

Wish I could go into detail on the whole thing but dont want to completely spoil it!!

Any expectations for the new Robin Hood movie?

I hear it breaks from tradition a lot.

Went to see it last night.
While its ok and certainly watchable, its no classic!
Dont get your hopes up too much

Worst film i've seen in a long time. Even behind Drag me off to hell. Marginally better than How to lose friends and alienate people - the worst film ever made.

Where did the charge of the donkeys come from at the end. We were in stitches laughing at it...

They made the total wrong approach with Robins origins. Poo
