    Hi

My parents are heading to New York shortly fot a break and I'm going to get them to get me a 3G wireless router.

Just wondering can anyone recommend me one that is reasonably priced and can be got in America?

    I am using the O2 E220.

    Cheers

Seriously bad idea unless you are very very expert.

Why do you think this is a good idea?

They have EVDO which is totally incompatible and also 3G on other bands. Dlink have the same router hardware but with different US and European firmware for US or European Mobile providers and Modems. You can only update the firmware to newer versions of SAME region, not switch region.

If you want a router only (no modem) there is plenty of choice here and you can get one that will later take a better modem than the E220, which is quite old.

Also it's likely an online shop is cheaper than a walk in USA shop.

None of this stuff is made in USA either.

    I echo Watty's comment.

Sprint have a nice 4g Mifi type device that may suit better.

Pop into a sprint store, you can get a sim pack aswell.

Sprint and a few other US carriers do good 3G stick + Sim Pack for $20/30 instore.

Thanks for that lads - didn't realise there would be that much trouble.

Suppose I'll just have a look through the other thread for one I can get.

But that is no use here, only for use in USA.
