Voted 'no', since I've never been burgled ever since I moved out on my own. Of course, we're allowed shoot burglars here, which tends to have a bit of an effect on the burglary rate, at least for anyone who spends any time at home.

Twice in Ireland, once in Belgium for the family when I was younger, mind.

Never my actual home(touch wood), but we used to live in a flat attatched onto a golf club which my Mam and Dad used to run and that was broken into four or five times in about 10 years. Moslty just travellers climbing in the windows, then hearing the dog bark(only a jack russell, but they didn't know that:P), then me Da shouting 'I've a gun' then them running, them's were the days.:)

My family home was broken into twice when I was a kid. Once when we were all in the house someone broke into the garage which is detached and took two bikes. We only knew it had happened when my Da came home home from work to find the garage open.

I was working in second chance education with a group of lads who told me they regularly burgled houses. They told me that nothing would put them off breaking into a house apart from dogs.
I have two dogs and haven't been broken into although the dogs have woken me up a few times and run snarling and barking into the garden when I open the door.

    Dog - man's best friend:)

Yes, was broken into. Woke up when he opened the bedroom door. I said "What the feck are you doing?' He said "stay there and you won't be hurt." I was on my own with my 2 year old child in the bed with me. The only way I could carry the child was at my front, and was afraid he'd stab me - and get the child first. So I stayed where I was while he ransacked the flat. I was terrified, but I was angry too. But I couldn't figure out how to escape without risking my child's life. He was never caught, although the Gardai took it very seriously. It's aggravated burgary if the burgled person is in.

My parents home in Ballyfermot was broken into in 1988 shortly after moving in. I was only 4 at the time so don't remember it and I was only told a couple of years ago. It meant my parents never settled well there and we ended up moving to Kerry a few years later.

my house didint get broken into but the my car sitting outside the house did... It was about 2 or 3 in the morning and I couldint get any sleep it was around the leaving cert time last year when the temp was in the high twentys and it was still baking at night, anyways I hear a smash and the car alarm going off I grab a baseball bat I have in the house and look out the bathroom windo which overlooks where the car is parked. Standing in the bushes next to the car is this lanky scumbag with his hood up I roar at him that Im going to brake his face but he dosent move so I leg it out the door in my boxers with bat in hand he looks at me and starts running out the drive way, at this stage I was so pissed off I legged it after him down the street roaring at him few cars drove past with people slowing down and thinking what the hell is going on.

And to make the story even more ridiculous the guards came out the next day and told me that they the theif must have used a special suction cup device to brake the window then I look down in the car where the window was smashed and see a big red brick on the car floor :mad::mad::mad:

You were dead right and bloody brave. "Men" like that, with a child in plain view?......... I'm sorry, they should be put down like a rabid dog. TBH Id have more sympathy for a rabid dog. Many people when discussing abortion, tie themselves in knots about when life begins. In cases like this, I'd know where it would end if I got even a sniff of an opportunity. All human life is not equal. Some are just manufacturing defects.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.
