Where to buy granary flour.

    Hi all,

I made some granary bread and rolls in a baking class a while back and have been hoping to make some at home. Only problem is that I can't find granary flour anywhere. I have tried specialist food shops, health food stores, I've even tried to order some online but can't find any.

Has anyone ever come across it in the shops and if so, where? (I'm in Kildare)

    Thanks in advance.

Granary flour is a unique brand of flour produced by the Hovis company. The only place that I've ever seen it is in Tesco. Should be in a 1-2kg bag, blue packaging.

Here's a picture of it, checked on Tesco.ie, they definitely have it, €1.70/kg.

Doves Farm do a Mixed Grain Malthouse Bread Flour. Having used both Hovis granary and this one, I think they are quite similar. I can't find the ingredients of the Hovis flour online to check though. The Doves Farm flour works out more expensive than the Hovis, but it could do the job if you're stuck. My local health food stores stock Doves Farm, and some specialist shops/supermarkets.

It was good to know to look for the Hovis brand. I managed to pick some up in a Tesco Extra yesterday so thanks a million for the help!

There is another brand called Allinsons Country Grain which is very similar and is very nice. I found it in SuperValu in Churchtown.

My local Tesco used to do Hovis Granary flour and dont anymore which is a pity.

Avoca does the Doves flour and maybe the Allinson's. It's just off the N7 at Rathcoole so might be handy enough depending on where in Kildare you are.
