It is juvenile, puerile and annoying people who have done nothing to bother me or interfere with my business.

    But yes I will

Swedish Cartoonist Attacked Giving a lecture about artistic freedom
Should have been headlined "15 men in their early twenties jump a 66-year old man in a university and break his glasses".

    What remarkable bravery.

Excellent idea, we should probably send them to Islam4UK. I would just love to see their reaction to thousands of drawings of Muhammed as a pig in shit.

MPAC.ie is the Irish equivalent, so that would probably be the place to send them if you are so inclined.

I'm getting a couple of Mohammed t-shirts made up for myself in honour of the day. Will post pics.

Be prepared for a devastating response if you do!

(An angry post on his blog, and maybe another fetching picture of Liam squeezed into his moo-moo in the Indo, having a rant about intolerance, and missing the irony.)

I will also present my artwork here in the form of emoticon. Not only that but I will reveal the true identity of Muhammed.

    Muhammed was... a KOALA!

Benny Lava celebrates his birthday on Draw Muhammad Day.

I wonder if the bakery will put Muhammad's face on the icing...

I will be drawing Muhammad anyway.

Does anyone else think this is just taking the piss out of their religion?
Not all muslims get so offended by this and all but surely they have the right to believe what they want and yes,we have the right to draw pictures of Mohammed aswell, but this is just making fun of someone's beliefs is it not?

You may have missed the point a little. This draw Muhammad thing is more about freedom of speech, some Muslims think they can stop us with threats of violence.
They can't and this is a way of showing it. It has nothing to do with the beliefs of their religion, it is their attitude of forcing others to follow that is being protested against.

Agreed. I'm a Muslim and I was shocked by the Muslim reaction to the drawings of the Prophet (PBUH). Yes the images did anger me when I saw them. I thought ' Do they ever get bored of trying to make fun of our faith at any given opportunity? Do they ever get bored of discriminating against us?' but at the same time common sense told me that the Prophet taught us to go through these things and not to result to anger and violence, treat everyone with love and respect. Above all, I was shocked that Muslims don't seem to recall the harships the Prophet himself (PBUH) went through 1400 years ago. Surely a cartoon drawn buy some Danish guy ( who must have known the consequence to his actions; he provoked violence and I'm pretty sure he knew the emotionally volatile Muslim community would have responded badly) can't be the worse thing thrown at the Prophet (PBUH)?

The thing is we as muslims do not believe any one has the right to illustrate any holy figure; we do not consider ourselves worthy to depict such a divine being.

But so long as it's all in good humour and fun, you guys can have your ' draw Mohammad day ' just please try not to be disrespectful... I'm all for freedom of speech but freedom of insult is another matter all together. A piss take isn't nice... Neither is it*to make fun of any ones beliefs...*

But sure, Happy Holidays! :) Allah loves you all ( hopefully ...)

Hmm,I see I kinda picked up the point wrong:o

But still,it is offense to muslims, most of them take their beliefs very seriously!

That's your communities problem, it shouldn't be ours. There is a veritable treasure trove of Jesus funnies on the internet, yet you don't see Christians going around head-butting 66-year old men, burning down buildings, etc, over it.

Emotionally volatile is an apt term, because this behaviour reminds me of a drama queen.

Islamic societies were, at one time, quite happy to do this. But under the influence of a iconoclastic movement similar to a parallel one in Europe, they changed, and now, depictions of Mohammad are pretty much forbidden everywhere.

No, it's not nice. But it's much better than being murdered for being about to express an point of view which was uncomfortable to many people.

If people didn't react so violently and demand such total respect for their views, then it's almost certain that there there wouldn't be other people running around winding the first lot up.

Religion is funny business, listen to this:
Now, science fiction writers following the cue of some chap, I've forgotten his name now, Einstein, Beinstein, something like that, who said that MC squared over C wouldn't go, man, and that the speed of light could not be excessive. And actually I was looking up some speed tables the other day, and a trillion light years per day is not full throttle on a space wagon. So there's traffic between galaxies and there's traffic between islands of galaxies and other islands of galaxies. Interesting.

Now I don't really care if someone gets insulted when I say that its ridiculous, I'm sure someone would take offense but that's their problem wouldn't you say?

Storm, that is their problem. They choose to not depict Mo, so that means we must fall into line?

but what I dont understand it why do somethig when you know it may provoke violence? You my call it freedom of speech and expression, but do you accomplish anythig good? No.. You don't. Just a couple of angry idiots making a mockery of the faith. It's pointless debauchery, especially at a time when the whole world looks at Muslims with alot of hostility iand then some guy comes slog and says ' ah sure, I'll draw a couple of pictures, they'll all go crazy and Muslims will look even worse then they already do. Wahey! ' :/

I completely agree with you that our communities have this problem. But if the problem is their why provoke it? S'all I'm saying. For me, it's not a big issue but for alot it is...

Its funny this... The Quran desrcibes Him as ' pale and rosy cheeked' yet all these drawings are like black guys. Lol. :)

Shhh... Don't get me started on problems with the Christian communityiesin Ireland...

I doubt you realise it, but that statement is a threat.

Islam, from my perspective, is a personal belief. An opinion. Nothing more. You have no right to stop me from drawing images of him no more than I have the right to stop you all from wearing hats because that offends my non-hat god.

You know this is a problem with me, so why provoke it?

    Ridiculous.
