we went up the stairs eventually, with our backs against the wall, swearing we were going to go to the priest in the morning to get blessed.

    gobshoites
Indeed. Everyone knows the time to keep your back to the wall is when you go to see the priest.

One particular series of random events that happened in the summer of 2003 still freak me out when I think of them.

Went to New York for a J1 with one of my mates. We knew that 5/6 other mates were all going too, but hadn't made any plans of yet to meet up with them. On our third day in the city, myself and my mate decided to take a trip into Manhattan. At about 5pm in the evening (rush hour - literally thousands of people on the sidewalks) we were strolling along when we bumped into one of the lads on his way home from work. We actually stood there for a while before we said anything, out of sheer bewilderment. Spoke for a bit and said we should email the others about meeting up and drinks etc, and left it at that.

A few minutes later we bumped into one of the other lads. Again, he was all on his own. Now these are two lads who I don't ever recall bumping into on the streets of Limerick, let alone the chances of meeting two of them back to back in New York! Quick conversation ensued and we went our separate ways.

A few days later the two of us decided to get tickets to the Yankees. As we were strolling up the steep steps towards our seats with hotdogs and beers in hand.....I get a tip on the leg. There sitting on his own, is another one of the lads!!!!!! I nearly dropped my food. In a stadium with about 60,000 people, and we get chatting to one of the lads by chance!

A few days later again, we decided to have a look at ground zero. Yet again, I sh1t you not, we bumped into the 4th lad of the group on his own taking pics! We were genuinely stuck for words!

And to top it all off, before we actually got to meet up with them all for a planned get together, we randomly bumped into the whole lot of them at Madison Square Garden for a WWE event!

Crazy crazy stuff and it still gives me goose bumps to this day!

Has anyone else ever had a deja vu of a deja vu? It's happened to me a couple of times. It's where you have a deja vu of already having had a deja vu of a particular moment.

This might sound weird but are both your eyes the same offset? Like for example I wear contact lens/glasses but my left eye is -2.75 but the right eye is only -2.00. It's one theory of an explanation for deja vu, because one eye is seeing an image slightly before the other, it gives a sense that you have already seen this happening.

me and a few friends used the ouija board a few times when we were 18.

scared the livin daylights out of ourselves. the three of us were pasted to the sofa with fear, too scared to move. one of the girls peed in a basin because she was too scared to go to the toilet and we were too scared to go with her.

we went up the stairs eventually, with our backs against the wall, swearing we were going to go to the priest in the morning to get blessed.

Well I just pissed myself laughing!

Living in Galway, saw a weird light in the sky. Low cloud cover that night, what we saw was just above the clouds. Huge, orange (looked like it was on fire), moving like it was a plane about to land at Galway airport, approaching from the west. About the same size (as an entire plane) too. However: no flashing lights, no landing lights, flickered like it was a ball of flame. Wrote to the NUIG observatory about it, and they sent a polite reply. Unfortunately, we saw it on the night of April 1, have a feeling they thought it was a hoax. This happened about 3 years ago, still have no idea what it could have been.

When I was 14, on the October Bank Holiday weekend, I woke up on the Saturday morning with an unexplainable feeling that somehow, something just didn't feel right and I couldn't get my head my head around it what is was.

The following morning, I wake up with similar feelings, only this time more intense, I KNEW something wasn't right but still couldn't get my head around what is was.

About 3 hours later that day, my father gets a call from one of my uncles to tell him that he was after finding his daughter dead in bed!

After getting over the initial shock, I began wondering if the sense of unexplainable unease I had felt earlier and this event were connected, I think they were and I can't explain it.

On the same weekend, on the night before, I also remember seeing a very big, bright and static object in the sky ( no way it was a star, plane or anything like that, it was just sitting there! And no, it wasn't the moon for any smart asses out there either! ) and was perplexed at what it was. Did anyone here from Cork remember seeing a similar object in the sky that Night ( October 28th, 2000? )

About 12-13 years ago I was walking home from school. As I was looking at the different cars that were passing me by, for some reason or another it had dawned on me that I hadn't seen a Lada in a very very long time. Possibly a year or so. After thinking about it for a few seconds, what then happens to pass me by, going in the same direction as me? A Lada.

Freaked me out a bit tbh. I think that may have been the last one I've seen too.

A few years ago, a group of us were camping. I was looking up at the stars at one point and i saw one moving across the sky, i figured it was a sattelite. That was grand, but it was moving towards another star. Jokingly i said to myself "oh noes, they're gonna crash!", but THEN, just as they were about to "collide", the stationary one moves out of the way of the sattelite heading towards it! THEN, after the sattelite was gone, it moved back into place!:eek:

(yes i had a few beers, but i was still coherant, plus the OH saw it too)

This didn't happen to me but happened to my parents back in the seventies.

Parents were living over in London. 7am and my father was walking to work and my mother was in bed asleep.

My mother had a dream that she saw my father about to cross a busy road and stepping out into the path of an oncoming lorry. She woke up at that point and just shouted out "STOP NO".

At the same time my dad WAS about to cross the road and he just heard my mothers voice shouting "STOP,NO".

This caused him to jump back onto the footpath.

The stranger who had been walking next to him, walked straight into the path of an oncoming, speeding lorry and was killed instantly right in front of his eyes.
If he hadn't heard my mothers voice in his head he would have been killed too and i wouldn't be here typing this...

    EXPLAIN THAT!!

One of the most interesting unexplained phenomena I've seen is the bloop.
It probably has a mundane explanation, but the idea that it could be some sort of enormous undiscovered organism is intriguing. It is like the Loch Ness thing, but more interesting in my opinion.

That's totally explainable. Ever fart in the bath?huurump,Bloop.

well I did have a strange one about 3 years ago. I was relaxing most of the day and listning to nice music through the night. I think i had 2 beers at about 2AM and fell asleep. I woke up all of a sudden a while later but i couldn't move and i heard a loud electrical buzzing noise around my head, then something grabbed my hand it was definately a hand that grabbed my hand at that stage i panacked and pulled back but when this all happened i was awake but i couldn't move. so i don't know what it was but i do know one thing, I wasn't asleep and i wasnt dreaming, I was awake but i couldn't move but I can tell you something grabbed my hand and was pulling on it for a minute I know that for sure but i can't explain it. just one of those things that can't be explained.
Or it could be Sleep Paralysis
    Wikipedia wrote:
.. Sleep paralysis occurs when the brain awakes from a REM state, but the body paralysis persists. This leaves the person fully conscious but unable to move... In addition, the paralysis may be accompanied by terrifying hallucinations (hypnopompic or hypnagogic) and an acute sense of danger... Many perceptions associated with sleep paralysis (visceral buzzing, loud sounds, adrenal mental state, presences, and the paralysis itself)

Having my ankle touched, almost like a little tug, one night when i was lying horizontally across my bed. No window open, no duvet near it nothing, and yet there felt like a cold grasp around it.

Also get the smell of my grannys perfume now and again, randomly, which is weird, because i thought it was someone wearing the same one, but it turns out it's been discontinued and the last time i smelt it i was on my own, at home.

Also, asking my grandad, who passed on when my dad was 4, for stuff to happen and it just usually happens, no logical explanation as to why.

One that happens quite often to me is all of a sudden I will begin thinking about a person (usually someone I have strong feelings for) and a second later I will get a text, or call from that very person.

wherever i park in a car park, no matter how empty it is, someone will be parking in the space beside me just as i return to the car.
same goes for shopping, i could stop to look at the most obscure item in an empty shop and someone will suddenly be interested in it too :mad:

This happens to everyone; it's just a simple case of cognitive bias. You'd probably think of people you know (particularly those for whom you have strong feelings) quite frequently during the day, without even consciously realising it. Taking this into account it's quite probable that you'd get a call from them at some time while they're in your thoughts, but you'd naturally attribute some significance to this occurrence while it's unlikely you'd do the same had the phone not rang :)

well thats it in a nutshell. it sure seems so real though.
It certainly does. I'd say it accounts for a huge amount of alleged paranormal occurrences, particularly alien abductions. I've suffered from sleep paralysis for years and my experiences have ranged from a simple inability to move, to visions of an identical replica of myself standing over me praying, right up to full-blown hallucinations where the furniture flew around the room.

i get those sleep paralysis/night terror things quite regularly

the last time was the worst so far actually, woke up and there was a pair of hands coming at me at speed, haha funny now but not then, i actually jumped out of my skin that time though so maybe it wasnt quite the same thing

wouldnt be so bad if it wasnt always accompanied by the feeling of evil in the room, cant tell you how many times ive been lying there trying to scream out but you cant even manage that

Used to all the time when I had a special someone in my life. Used to say we had some sorta special connection. Sometimes I pick up my phone to text the person and I get a text from the person. Or I call or text and find out we've both been listening to the same song at the same time. Stupid **** like that. Certainly stupid.

One christmas, my family decided to trot off to mass.
Being an opportuinistic young lassie, I decided to stay behind as our family home is attached to our pub.
I left the door to the house open so if anyone rang the housephone I'd hear it, and sat in the bar watching the big telly and eating packet after packet of bacon fries when the door swung shut.
Being that it's what seperates our pub from the house it is heavy wood, and a breeze wouldn't even shift it...
When the fam returned home from the pub I was behind the bar with a poker in my hands.

My father passed away this year, and one of his alarm clocks kept going off around 4am, even though it was set for 7am, with the alarm off. I took the batteries out of it, because going in and out of his room was upsetting.
Even with the batteries out sometimes it still beeps.
Nobody believed me when I told them but a few friends have seen it now too.
I like to think its my darling daddio saying hello to me :)

QUOTE: by the feeling of evil in the room.

this is the thing i can't figure out. almost all of these experiences from most people having this experience say they feel evil or pure evil in the room or where they sleep that is so frightening as to almost give you a heart attack. i wonder where this stems from in the brain to be so frightened of something we can't see or in cases that people can see something or someone. even if you don't see anything or anyone you still have the fear of hell in you when it does happen i wonder why ? as it stands i had no reason to be frightened or scared in this way as i was and still am at peace with myself so it's strange why this evil feeling appears in such circumstances when you wouldn't have a worry in the world. ok you wake up as your body is paralysed and can't move, big deal, when you have had this experience many times you know in your brain that you are awake but cannot move so why is it that all the times you have it you still fear as if you are going to be seriously harmed. you would think you would be well used to the experience at this stage and know and say to yourself ah it's only one of those sleep paralysis episodes, but even though you know this you still feel tremendous fear like you can't imagine. more research needs to be done on this as it is a strange one.
