Given the recent questions about Renaults of late, VAG cars, Toyota, etc I am curious to find out what problems, if any people are having with their own cars.

So lets limit this to cars 2005-2010, owned by yourself, and lets hear how you got on. List the failures (and if covered by warranty or not) and if the car has ever left you stranded. Also list how your car rates for interior rattles, 1 being no rattles, 10 being many.

    I'll get started.

    2006 Renault Magane Tourer 1.5DCI
    2 window regulators (warranty)
AC failed, computer reboot fixed it (warranty)
New rear screen (failed heating element) (warranty)
    1 strut top mount (warranty)
    AC pipe replaced (recall) (warranty)
At least 5 blown headlight bulbs
    Ever stranded/failed to start?: NO
    Rattles: 6

    2008 Ford Focus 2.0TDCi
    Belt tensioner (warranty)
    Ever stranded/failed to start?: NO
    Rattles: 2

    2005 BMW 530D
1 crank shaft sensor(last week of warranty left me stranded on m50,tow truck from joe duffy bmw)(not what you want to see after having the car a week
3 new batterys due to high discharge overnight (90)euro
air bag light comes on after being reset x3

    2008 (from new) S-Max: 65,000 km - no issues.
2006 (2nd hand with 40000 miles up) Mini Cooper - no issues.

Your Renault looks pretty bad. I've had 2 Clios and a Kangoo, and never any issues worse than a somewhat reluctant starter motor on the Kangoo just before I got rid.

    2006 Golf Plus 1.6 FSI
1 x Failed coil pack (out of warranty, but replaced FOC :))
1 x Washer bottle leaked after the cold snap (-10C around me!) - €40 to fix.
    Ever stranded/failed to start?: NO
Rattles: 2 (something in the dash, think it might be something I put in a cubby and forgot:o)

Not bad for 4+ years and almost 85,000 kms

    2008 BMW 318i Saloon
    No issues
    Ever stranded/failed to start?: NO
    Rattles: 1

2008 Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI, Zetec

    have from new, 80,000 Km,
No mechanical faults, Engine light came on once,
    Rattles 1
only major problem is front tyre wear, the continental tyres which the car came with lasted 14,000 k. changed to Bridgestone and now getting an average of 20,000k from a set even after wheel alignment.

That sounds like a blown fuse. You might have tried to run the washer while the line was frozen and blown the fuse.

Volkswagen Golf Estate TDI90, 2000, basic spec. 160k miles

Coolant Temp Sesnor - Nothing major but I wanted it changed.
Oil Leak - The gasket or something went around the crank case I think. Its meant to be a one off problem, never read about it.

Rear window washer did its usual thing, easy fix

Drivers side door lock went kaput in the ice, its a problem anyway that I didnt help with trying to unlock it forcefully. easy fix.

The starter motor can stick on sometimes, very rarely. Its meant to be a fairly common problem that just needs a clean out of the gearing down there.

I think thats it. Service History before I got it indicates nothing out of the ordinary.
Its never left me by the side of the road and has always gotten me from A to B.

    2006 Seat Leon 1.6

1 x Air conditioning compressor - covered by warranty (between all the messing I believe the final bill for that was €1600).
1 x door lock switch (the unlock side stopped) - €16 including fitting.
1 x Gearbox - that hurt. Got it rebuilt but that shouldn't have happened. Heard a bit of a groan at under 80k km, by 100k km it was a screech. Dealer still insisted it was fine. Brought it in and just got it done at a gearbox specialist. A grand burned
1 x Tie rod end - failed the NCT on this. was only €80 at a dealer.
Rattles - 2 - there's 108k km on the car and it's on biggish sheels and sports suspension but remains suprisingly rattle free. I don't dog it on bad roads though.
Never left me stranded, and still feels as solid as it used to.

    Thanks.
I thought as much, but the only time I remember its broke is when the screen needs washing.
The boot is probably the same ya?

    Discrimination!

    2002 Subaru Impreza RX.

    Rattles : None so far.
    Lambda : Replaced once.
Clutch : slipping after 94,000 due to be changed soon.
Boot doesn't open from inside anymore, simple quick fix of the cable just too lazy to do it. :D
One screen washer (out of 4) stopped working last week, probably just some dirt in it)
Rear diff: Speed sensor had to be changed.

    That's my lot. :)

Ah keep it to the modern cars. makes for good reading. I'm surprised actually at the amount of things that are being fixed under warranty.

2000 Clio bought new as my fist car. Never missed a beat despite being horribly misstreated in it's early years and survived long enough to be usedas a scrappage car last month.

    94 accord 2.0 died
    94 rover 620 ( accord) 2.0 died

93 Renault safrane 2.0 never missed a beat , sold because it wasunderpowered for the size of it and my next car came available.

97 Renault safrane 2.5 auto again never missed a beat sold because I needed a van for work.

Never should have sold either of the safranes :(

97 Peugeot partner. Perfectly reliable .

2000 xantia 1.8 low mileage and perfectly reliable ( must sell that seeing as I can't afford to run a car and van)

currently driving a peugeot expert that's never missed a beat.

The missus has had a 99 micra from new an 01 a140 from new thathad a couple of issues that were escalated to very dangerous by dodgy repairs done in a now closedtallaght merc dealer . After that it was a 00 scenic and now an 05 grand scenic that have needed nothing up untill I had to change the coils in last week ( it still started and ran, just lumpy). €120 outside of regular maintenance over 5 years is grand IMO.

That's everything I've had and/or used on a daily basis

Whats wrong with other cars!! ;)

I HAVE to defend Renault!! My father had 8 renaults ('86 to '99) and ALL were perfect, and I've a 1997 Laguna for 6 years which has now almost 200,000 miles (80,000 when I got it) and its never let me down...only major thing I'd to sort was the TDC sensor....quick clean sorted it. As for rattles I'd put it at 2. The only thing being the sunroof cover can rattle now and again.

My other car is a 1998 micra which I've had 10 yrs (8,000 miles on it when I got it....about 75,000 now) and the thing is too bloody reliable! I've done nothing to it besides service and it still has its orginal brake shoes, pads, discs and drums. Never failed an NCT.

2001 Alfa Romeo 156 1.8 Sportivo Twin Spark 76K (mls) I have this car 4 years and just cant bring myself to change it, as its really reliable & fun! Issues (front to back) have been: Faded Badge. Off side shock, near side not needed to balance. Thermostat. MAF. Had to change bulbs in fuel gauge & temp gauge so center console came out. Antenna for radio in the rear pillar upgraded. Brake light went last night. A fortune on Magnatec oil. Apart from that just wear & tear replacements: T-Belt, Upper Wishbones and because I cant help myself - plenty of front tyres and pads! Forgot - The immobilizer shut down once and it had to get lifted to a main dealer. (I typed this in paragraphs but didn't seem to work)

    Yeah it should be.

I don't wanna hear every ones stories of how their heap of junk lasted 100 years :D

I want to see how everyone is getting on with their newer cars and what dealerships have to fix under warranty etc

    2006 Honda Civic 1.4 SE 5dr.

Athough I haven't officially owned these cars, they are cars of close family members and I drive them often. My own cars are older than 05

    2005 Ford Focus (owned 05-07)
    Major gearbox oil leak
Design fault causing water to get into spark plug wells causing bad/failed starting and running
    Knocking from suspension
    Bonnet catch failed
    Intermittent immobiliser problem
    Rear wiper motor recall
Left stranded - Yes a relative was due to the spark plug issue. Had I been driving it I might not have been stranded
    Rattles - 0

    2007 Ford Focus (owned 07-09)
    Nothing

    2009 Renault Megane (owned 09- )
    Nothing

2008 Subaru Forester. It's been back four times to have each of the dealer-fit parking sensors replaced one by one. Apart from that, it's only needed a drivers window regulator. I have to say that the dealer (Castle Subaru in Bray) are unfailingly friendly and easy to deal with.
