"do chárta" or "do cheann cárta"?

    Hello everyone,

    Can anyone please enlighten me on the above problem?

    I thought the only cases "ceann" and "cuid" are not used are when the object possessed is an unalienable part of the possessor, such as "mo chos" in contrast to "mo cheann leabhar".

    But in the lecture text following that grammar bit the gracious banaltra asks the patient: "Cá bhfuil do chárta?".

    Shouldn't that be "Cá bhfuil do cheann cárta"?

    No. You use "ceann" or "cárta" there but not both.

    "Cá bhfuil do cheann" is used when "cárta" has already been introduced into the conversation.

    for example
    Othar: Tá cárta mo mháthar agam.
    Banaltra:: Cá bhfuil do cheann?
