KGB officer: "I cremated Hitler in 1970"

Ex-KGB officer has claimed that he and a few others cremated Hitler's remains and scattered his ashes at an unnamed spot.
AN ex-KGB officer claimed last night that he had cremated the bones of Adolf Hitler.

But Russian Vladimir Gumenyuk, 73, refused to say where the tyrant's ashes were scattered.

He fears it could become a place for neo-Nazi pilgrimages.

The secret agent is said to be the last man alive from a team of three sent in 1970 to dig up the bones of Hitler, his mistress Eva Braun and the remains of Joseph Goebbels and his family.

He said: "We were ordered to burn the remains of Hitler and all his entourage, and blow them to the wind."

He said that having dug them up near Magdeburg, in former East Germany, they burnt the bones and drove to the top of a cliff on a small unnamed stream - where they scattered the ashes.

It was at a location decided by Moscow authorities. Gumenyuk, who said the team posed as fishermen, said: "No one was there - 20 seconds and the job was done. It was just the last flight of the Fuhrer."

He said he had turned down large sums to identify the exact spot he disposed of Hitler.

Gumenyuk told a Russian newspaper: "There are still too many neo-Nazis. There would be pilgrimages. They'd even put up a monument."
    Source

    Do you believe him?

Seems a bit of a yarn to me.

If he is telling the truth though, do you think he is right not to reveal the spot where the ashes were scattered?

Yes, there was a recent research project done by the BBC where they were allowed for absolute once able to take a DNA sample of what was supposed to be Hitler's skull - and it fact it turned out to be a womans skull.
In the BBC documentary, they too came upon evidence that the body was quietly cremated and buried in an unmarked grave. They even showed the supposed general site area.

Yeah, I think he's reich. I wouldn't be Russian for answers to the location.

I kinda believed it, until I saw the source was The Sun.

Definately right not to reveal the location, last thing we want is a shrine to a man who created so much devistation, destruction and death in so many different lands.

Many many people were effected directly or indirectly by hitler. Keep him hidden, don't make his location into a shrine.

As for believing the KGB guy... I dunno, it's a risky thing for him to claim is it not?

Here is the BBC report: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8281839.stm
A bone fragment believed to be part of Adolf Hitler's skull has been revealed as being that of an unidentified woman, US scientists have said.
The section of bone - marked with a bullet hole - was used to support the theory that Hitler shot himself.
Russian scientists said the skull piece was found alongside Hitler's jawbone and had put it on display in Moscow.
But US scientists said DNA tests revealed it actually belonged to a woman aged between 20 and 40.
An archaeologist from the University of Connecticut travelled to Moscow, where the fragment has been on show in the city's federal archive since 2000, to take a sample.

    Cyanide pill

Nick Bellantoni said he had suspected even before the bone was tested that the fragment did not come from an adult male.
"The bone was very small and thin, and normally male bones are much more robust in our species," he said.
"I thought it probably came from a woman or a younger man."
DNA tests confirmed that the bone fragment came from a female.
Doubts about exactly how Hitler died have persisted for decades.

Russian officials said that the bodies of Hitler and Eva Braun - who reportedly committed suicide in a Berlin bunker in 1945 - were removed from a shell crater shortly after they died.
The piece of skull forms part of a collection that also includes a section of a bloodstained sofa where Hitler is believed to have shot himself after swallowing a cyanide pill.

Obviously you could if you bothered to come in and read and then post a further comment.
...Is that not called "irony?" or being "hypocritical!"

As far as I can tell over the years on After Hours, most newspapers are frowned upon.

    Daily Mail
    The Sun
    The Mirror
    The Guardian
    The Independent
    The Herald
    Sunday World
News Of The World .. etc etc

Seems to me that most newspapers these days are in the business of sensationalizing stories and rarely present the bare facts to the reader, as indeed they should.

So I tend to keep my hate for specific journalists like Paul Williams, Richard Littlejohn, Jan Moir etc, rather than just direct hatred and skepticism at an entire Newspaper like The Sun.

Although, I can understand Liverpool fans doing so.

    .

It's ironic that these are the most frowned upon newspapers in AH when the reaction to a lot of threads from a lot of posters would be akin to the kind of vitriol that these papers produce.

    Indeed.

The point is that if the place where hitlers ashes were supposedly thrown is found out by the neo nazi headers, then that place could become a shrine and they would have something to worship, which is not a good thing.

Yep. Let's not discuss history. In fact, let's burn the history books.... Oh hang on, wait a minute - isn't there a reason why we shouldn't burn books? I'd check the history books to see if there were any precendents, but I've just burned them.

    Oh well.
