I used to work in a certain company in the finance sector where, if someone was having a red tape related problem, I would cut them a free pass on the grounds of

a- I wouldnt be found out, and

b- It was some stupid rule made by some fcuknut who makes more than I did who hadnt a fcuking clue about the real world

Yet I had some colleagues who would freeze an account if the dots oin the is and crosses werent on the ts. Morons. tbh Id rather top myself than return to an office environment.

Definitely. I would view automatic, unquestioning obedience of authority as a sign of a lower intelligence.

Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men [& wimme I guess].

I think rules suit different types of intelligence. Alot of people like rules, like structure order and balance, they see it as necessary and are frustrated when these rules are not adhered to.
There are people who like to be organised from going to meeting to going to gig, nothing too spontaneuous, never unprepared. The people who will sensibly leave a night out at a proper hour so not to be tired for the following morning. These people usually have tidy desks.

Theres is also a more adventurous intelligence in people, people who question rules and authority. People who always ask why, not in a cheeky way. People who says the first thing that comes into their heads, who leave their front door on a night out and have no idea whats in store.

Both sets of personalties are required in our world. The first set allows us to work, it makes sure accounts are balanced and road are safe and trains run on time.
The latter intelligence make short cuts, have bigger ideas. Makes cars faster, makes things more efficient and helps workplaces adapt and progress and even give them a kick in the arse.

Intelligence comes in different forms. If one student studies for 1hour on a subject every Friday night for 6 months and another does no study but crams for an entire week before hand and they both get the same mark then who is more intelligent?

The person who retains the info for longer.

In one of Jeremy Clarkson's books he describes how while they were filming for Top Gear in the States, a cop came over to check their filming permit and then told them that they had to move 100 yards up the road, to which Jeremy Clarkson asked him to use common sense since it really didn't make a difference and they were already set up. The cop replied "you don't need common sense when you've got laws.

I'd agree if it was anyone but clarkson, ut he really annoys me with his arrogance . . .so I'd be inclined to think he made up/ exaggerated the story . . .

oh lord the intelligence snobbery in here is palpable, I don't have a clear definition of intelligence but I know an intelligent person when I talk to them.

I have always found that people who are less likely to break the rules and see things as black or white / right or wrong tend to be less intelligent than those who are less rigid in their thinking.

    Does anyone else agree ?

By the way I am obviously not talking about criminals or scummers who ignore the law and do as they please, I am talking about the goody two shoes, teachers pet types

I don't think any intelligent thought was put into this. I mean you say "less likely to break rules" and see things as "black or white / right or wrong".

Less likely means they would still still be open to breaking a rule.

It could be that people are simply different, some people might be intelligent enough to see doing something which might be viewed as the black or white/right or wrong as making things easier, intelligent enough to avoid unnecessary hassle.

Do we want a society ruled by relativism, where there is no right or wrong, no black or white, isn't it this kind of attitude that got the country into a mess.
A greed is good society, all the rules were thrown out and we ended up with banking scandals, a false economy based on a property bubble which the government are now trying to fix.
A financial regulator who was not a goody two shoes, sorry but maybe the more intelligent people would follow the rules, rules should come about from experience, an experience that if you do such a thing the outcome would not be good, we need black and white, right and wrong.
A person having an attitude based on relativism does not equate to being more intelligent.

I absolutely agree. The arseholes that nit-pick and are pedantic about everything are absolute retards and obviously have mammy/daddy issues and no friends.

I think we have an inkling into what the OP is saying, but he posted it in quite a vague way. There's a wealth of arguments that could be posed regarding the statement. Personally I think he's got an issue with dullards, the uninspiring sort, who may frustrate ya at the sight of their lethargy etc, but probably aren't stupid at all. They're the kind a teacher or parent would like to give a good shaking:)

I think it's probably best not to read too much into the OPs original post, it's just a general statement, clearly it's not smart to not question anything and take everything as gospel, I did baulk at the terms "goody two shoes" and "teachers pet" though.

Yeah, that to. Well be able to have the info there and recall it at the correct time, and not just for an exam.

Highly likely. There's a strong correlation.

Do you think there's a significant difference in intelligence between the rule-loving Swiss and the rule-breaking Irish?
