    Christian preacher arrested for saying homosexuality is a sin

    A Christian street preacher was arrested and locked in a cell for telling a passer-by that homosexuality is a sin in the eyes of God.

    Dale McAlpine was charged with causing “harassment, alarm or distress” after a homosexual police community support officer (PCSO) overheard him reciting a number of “sins” referred to in the Bible, including blasphemy, drunkenness and same sex relationships.

    The 42-year-old Baptist, who has preached Christianity in Workington, Cumbria for years, said he did not mention homosexuality while delivering a sermon from the top of a stepladder, but admitted telling a passing shopper that he believed it went against the word of God.

    Police officers are alleging that he made the remark in a voice loud enough to be overheard by others and have charged him with using abusive or insulting language, contrary to the Public Order Act.

    Mr McAlpine, who was taken to the police station in the back of a marked van and locked in a cell for seven hours on April 20, said the incident was among the worst experiences of his life.

    So long as I can stand on a step ladder and declare that Jesus was a homosexual robot from the future that feasted on babies, then I see no reason why a Christian cannot dribble their gobbledegook on the street either.

    While I don't agree with the guy's teachings - it seems to be an alarming over the top reaction by the police officer and an abuse of the public order act.

    Rightly or wrongly it appears the police officer's own sensitivities and/or beliefs have interferred with his ability to do his job correctly.

    Why is saying homosexuality is a sin more (or indeed less) of a crime than saying drunkeness or adultery is a sin.
    Going solely on the content of the article.

    I don't see any valid reason why somebody shouldn't have the right to publicly refer to homosexuality as "a sin". It's not even remotely "insulting or abusive language". Withdrawing his right to free speech makes him feel like a victim of political correctness gone maaaad, etc, and - worse still - gifts him a load of free publicity and the chance to reiterate his shíte in bigoted newspapers.

    I think it derives from the title, the "God Hates Fags" people the title alludes to refers to people having sex outside marriage as "fags" as well as just about anything in the bible they decide they don't like, not limiting themselves to the classic definition of fags. Also, of course, soldiers are "fags" according to them, it's a very broadly-defined word.

    Implying that homosexuality is on a par with paedophilia is pretty insulting and derogatory. Also the children who were molested and abused were not exclusively male. Please refrain from making such a comparison in future.

    I've always found that the Church's views on homosexuality are not very, well, Christian.
