Laptop Freezing

    Hi all,
    Long time reader seldom poster!!

    I am having a look at a friends laptop that is slow and sometimes freezes for a few minutes and then gets going again. Its an ACER running vista.

    There were two anti virus programmes running on it so I removed one and while at it I also removed Limewire. This all seemed to work well until I try to restart and it freezes just before it loads Vista. I restart with safe mode and do a system restore and it works as normal again. I ran Ccleaner which removed some stuff and the same happened, had to do a system restore before I could Restart. I have also ran Malware-bytes, it found nothing. It seem to not want to uninstall anything.

    Any help would be much welcome

    When you removed one of the anti virus programmes and limewire are you sure they uninstalled fully and haven't left anything that's now hanging the system.

    I uninstalled a redundant modem once and the system hung because there was a modem helper in start up which hung the system because the modem was no longer there.

    Thanks for swift reply.

    I am fairly sure they uninstalled ok. I tried it by using the add/remove programmes in Vista and then ran cCleaner and after the system restore I uninstalled the software using the ccleaner uninstaller. Same results both times.

    Hi Most Haunted,
    AVG Free version 9
    McAfee
    I unistalled McAfee.

    the problem is McAfee

    They made a ****up of the latest update which effected millions of PCs around the world . There being sued as we speak by Corps and Banks

    Remove it completely

    Thanks for the help guys,
    I seem to be sorted.

    I finally got Mcafee off. I think I might have been trying to uninstall it while it was still running :o
