What would be the point in planting a bomb in a different building to the one you have a problem with? Doesn't make any sense.

Just heard that the car bomb was outside a theater filled with children. Scum of the earth doing this, hopefully he is caught and suffers severely.
    Probably couldn't get parking.

Problem there is they said the bomb looked amateur.

Any bets it's "homegrown" terrorist, rightwing whackjob, and that once the media find that out the story slips quietly off the front page?

Can you back that up, or produce any reference ?
A joke is a short story or ironic depiction of a situation communicated with the intent of being humorous. These jokes will normally have a punchline that will end the sentence to make it humorous. A joke can also be a single phrase or statement that employs sarcasm.

    O yeah. Consumer grade="garden" fireworks.
Investigators removed three propane tanks, consumer-grade fireworks, two filled 5-gallon gasoline containers, and two clocks with batteries, electrical wire and other components, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said.

I know there's a recession on, but I doubt they've cut back so far they've stopped telling them how to make explosives out of fertiliser. I'd say lone nut or wannabe, though whether he's playing for Jesus, The White Man or Allah is at this point unknowable.

    Breaking News!!!

Ya supposedly the bomb was targetted at Trey Parker and Matt Stone (creators of South Park) for their depiction of Muhammed in a bear costume. The bomb was left across the road from the viacom buildings which own comedy central.

Guarantee they will secure any bomb(if any) there is before it goes off.

They're hardly going to let it explode are they?

I'm not following you. How do you think they'd be able to prevent a common type of car driving around the city?

What I meant to say was that it's suspicious on a number of different levels.

Perhaps it will become clearer over the next couple of days but it seems odd that a car packed with some form of explosive device can travel around in a city the size of New York without arousing some sort of suspicion.

A man has been arrested in relation to the NY Times Square bomb.

He was arrested at JFK airport trying to leave the US.

It's believed that he is of Pakistani descent.

Why? I doubt they had a giant ACME style timer attached to the side of it, or a long fuse sticking out the boot waiting to be lit.

Someone tries to murder innocent men, women and children, and half the responses here revolve around conspiracy theories, and how peoples' rights are suddenly going to disappear. Seems people will use anything to have a go at America.

Thousands of delivery vehicles and SUV's driving around NY and this one's to be considered suspicious.

You have to be joking, or do you have a skill to be able to just look at a vehicle and be able detect the contents.

Could you tell me just one of the number of different levels that made it suss.?

Wait..hold on..does that mean it wasn't the US fabricating anything? And it wasn't them trying to say it was the Iranians? But that would mean some people on here were jumping to conclusions assuming the worst about America...that doesn't happen here!?!?!

Also don't see anything to concrete regarding the South Park tie in, most news sites say it was Pakastani linked

The fact it was parked up in Times Square might be a start. Not alot of places to stop along there.

And within minutes it was brought to the attention of the cops.

A typical problem - reaction - solution scenario.

Scores more CCTV cameras are to be added to the 82 that police currently have installed in the midtown area of the city, but which failed to capture the significant moments of the incident.

There's going to be a whole load of small groups going to try and claim this one.

This has homemade all over it. For a start, if it really was a terrorist cell, they would have stayed to make sure the job got done. it would be a considerable shift away from the previous tactics of suicide bombing.

The guy's probably a wannabe who threw a load of explosive material into a car, lit a fuse and hoped the whole thing would blow up.

The Taliban have plenty of experience at making car bombs that work. They wouldn't have screwed the technological side of things this badly. The claim by the Taliban that it was them lacks credibility, at least to any level beyond providing a few thousand dollars in cash and saying 'have at it, what's the worst that can happen?'

    Anyway...

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8660370.stm
"He's admitted to buying the truck, putting the devices together, putting them in the truck, leaving the truck there and leaving the scene," one unnamed source told the Reuters news agency.

"He's claimed to have acted alone. He did admit to all the charges, so to speak," he added.

Well it was suspicious as the engine was left running and the hazard lights on parked in some sort of loading bay. Kinda makes it stand out. A street vendor noticed it and told a cop who checked it out.

We got stopped once by some Iraqis who pointed out a VW Sirocco (I think it was) parked by the side of the road with the hood up. "Car bomb!" they told us. We asked them what made them think it was a car bomb. "The driver got out of the car, opened the hood, then ran across that field, through the canal, across the next set of fields and into the town over there. We thought this was suspicious."

Sure enough, the car blew up when we were arguing if we could blow it up or not.

    Are you ok?

Fail to see anything at all logical in your post. Why wouldn't a car be able to drive around new york packed with explosives?? It wasn't a convertable ffs.
