Filmming legalities

If someone filmmed an event for someone who owns the rights to it? The person who filmmed it or the person it was filmmed for?

If a contract is unspecified you own the rights to the film... you'd have to sign that away. But if what you are filming is subject to copyright (performance etc) then you would need clearance to broadcast it.

Also its a good idea to get clearance from the people whom you're filming (or who appear in your film) so it can be broadcast.

If someone else wishes to broadcast or show something you filmed they would need your clearance

That binary dude is spot on. You own the film, but without clearance for the performance you can't show it. Always get a release.
