New York's Times Square is evacuated after a 'device' is discovered in a car

A dark-coloured sports car was found to contain explosives, gasoline, propane and burned wires, a New York Fire Department officer told Reuters.

The officer, who did not give his name because he was not authorized to speak to the media, said a man was seen fleeing the car.

Police evacuated several blocks around the popular tourist area in the centre of Manhattan in case there were other devices.

The officer said the car was smoking and there were popping sounds.

The car was said to be a "failed device."

Something rotten in the state of Denmark.

    Answer me this.

After 3000 deaths and endless security checking have the american security services learned nothing?

WTF is going on? For some reason this is setting off alarm bells. There seems to be something going on behind the scenes that we are not fully aware of.

Who has got the blame for this or have they announced it yet?

Lucky escape by the sounds of it. Hopefully not the start of a bombing campaign.

Incremental justification for terror legislation and military spending.

These bombs will only explode once the defused ones lose their impact.

I'm sure Jim Corr will have a few interesting theories on this one.

The authorities have declared it an "act of terrorism" which of course gives them the beans to continue their "War on Terror":rolleyes::rolleyes:
    Maybe I'm just too cynical?

I follow your same train of thought, but I would like to see what the support and standings are on it. Does the support for the war on "terror" need a boost?

It could also be legit, but the amount of lies and false details released about past "terrorist" attacks, the amount of oddities and coincidences, I think many people around the globe will find it hard to believe.

Most importantly, I hope that innocent people are not murdered to increase the support of the war, or in the name of actual terrorism either.

I'm not following you. How do you think they'd be able to prevent a common type of car driving around the city?

Time Square is just down the road from a hell of alot of big company buildings, I wouldn't be jumping to that conclusion just yet.

What would be the point in planting a bomb in a different building to the one you have a problem with? Doesn't make any sense.

Just heard that the car bomb was outside a theater filled with children. Scum of the earth doing this, hopefully he is caught and suffers severely.
