DVD/VHS Recorder for SKY+ Recordings

    Hi Folks,

    I currently have SKY+ in the sitting room & SKY in another room. The hard drive in the SKY+ has nearly reached capacity. I want to backup the recordings on the SKY+ to an external hard drive. From reading around it seems the easiest way to do this is through a DVD recorder.

    Ideally I'd like to get a DVD Recorder that has the following features:
    (1) Record to hard drive
    (2) Record from VHS to hard drive/DVD.
    (3) Record to DVD
    (3) Twin Tuner, so I replace the Sky multiroom with freeview.

    Are there any freeview STB that will accomplish all of the above.

    This'll be the problem, and when you say Freeview, what do you mean?
    Can you receive UK Freeview from where you are?

    Thanks for your reply, Sorry I'm a novice to FTA.

    I'd imagine I would be able to receive the Irish terrestrial stations (RTE, RTE2, TV3 & TG4) through an aerial & I can then receive the UK Channels through Freesat.

    I assume there is no such STB that will accomplish what I'm looking for, so I'll rephrase my original question;

    I would like to get a DVD/VHS Recorder with built in hard drive that will allow me to;
    (a) Convert old VHS tapes to DVD
    (b) Backup recordings from Sky+

    Would the Panasonic DMR-EZ49V suit my requirements or is there a better Recorder out there??

    Have you got a working video recorder? Or can you borrow one? If so don't bother getting a HDD/ DVD with built in VHS, once you've archived your tapes you'll never use it again. Remember you WON'T be able to archive most purchased video tapes so it'll only be for home movies and stuff you recorded off TV.

    Virtually any HDD/ DVD recorder will do what you want then, just connect the VHS / Sky+ or whatever via Scart and record away onto the Hard Drive, the beauty of HDD/ DVD recorders is you can then edit out ads etc and make menus before putting your programs onto a DVD.

    Keep an eye out for HDD/ DVD recorders in Lidl they are fantastic value, are usually rebranded major manufacturers AND come with a staggering 36 months warranty!
