Absolute essentials for home recording in a bedroom set up?

I'm a guitarist. I used drum machines and i lay down bass tracks as well. Have my computer, interface, decent speakers. What would you say are the absolute essentials that every bedroom studio should have to get a good recording? Mics, etc whatever it be.

Also is there anything that can help a bedroom set up shine? Any particular things to get that little bit better out of my recordings?

good room treatment , good monitors

or great headphones

this will solve most of your issues off the bat.

an sm7b mic is always a good buy along with a sm57

a decent DI/ preamp for the bass ( a reddy ) or any great preamp with a di included ( can use for your mics as well )

and a nice low 5 or 10 watt tube amp to record guitar with .
then use ez drummer of superiour 2

following on from the sound advice from DaDumTish.

I can't speak in relation to equipment cos I don't work with guitars and all my mic work is done outdoors but I do reckon a big issue with a bedroom studio is just getting to know the space and it's sound limitations. For example, take a piece of music you know very well and that represents the type of music you are working with and then get to know it cold in your studio, listening to where frequencies are being lost, amplified, etc by the constraints of your space and the equipment within that space. Compensating for the glaring problems with traps, etc will help you understand your workspace a little better and ultimately prompt you to approach your music in a more professional and technically competent manner.

I can't say I got the sound nearly perfect but I spent months listening to the music I know and love in my own home studio before I'd trust it to anything I was going to create.

That's what I reckon.

Feel embarrassed for him.. It was obviously only ever going to result in a ban.

Wrong place to do it too.. with lots of people here potentially affected by piracy (including the Mod!)

It certainly does, thanks. Lots of reading to be done and some ReFills to hunt down (if they are still available on the legit market) and I'll be good. Some of the samples which I downloaded via sample packs will be very hard to track down. I might have to get drummer friends to play them for me though that was always my intention anyway. Ironically I work in the software industry myself so I've had no excuse for 1.5 years of illegal use.
