Laying down wires for Sky?

Hi,

I am changing over to Sky multiroom and only have one working telephone point coming into my kitchen.Sky have said they will only install along skirtingboards and on the wall and I want to hide the wires. I was planning on running wires from the attic, is this a tough job and what do I need for it?

I know I will have to run telephone lines so its just CAT5 cable right? Are there any other calbles they are going to need to run? I currently have UPC digital working in all of the rooms I am installing the multiroom in.

Do I need to connect them all in parrelel or can I connect them in series to the line in the kitchen?

It says there, does not work with Sky+ I should have mentioned the 2 rooms other then the kitchen that are getting the Sky will be getting Sky+

I have phone extenders similar to those that I bought in Maplins and they work with my Sky HD box.

+1 they work fine with Sky+ and definitely better than a run of cable

I will look into them tomorow when I am in town so. The other question still remains though about what other cables I need to run, Im pretty sure I need to run CT100 cables I tihnk they are called from the attack to all the rooms, am I right?

You'll need 2 runs of CT100 coax per Sky+ to feed the dual tuners from the dish.

Also need F-connectors to terminate each end

Do you have an LNB on the dish with enough sockets for all your feeds?

If you're adding 2x Sky+ boxes and keeping your Sky Digibox, you'll need a total of 5 coax cable runs and an Octo-LNB.

If you're adding 1 Sky+ box and keeping the Digibox, you'll only need 3 runs of coax and a Quad-LNB will suffice.

You might be as well getting all your requirements from SatCure
Prices are reasonable and shipping to Ireland is cheap

Right, its a much bigger job then I first thought, managed to figure a neater plan for where everything comes into the house and then under carpets, so going with sky installing everything seems more likely. Thanks for the advice.

So you got Sky plus into the kitchen and Sky multiroom into two other rooms? Did the Sky engineer do a tidy job with the cabling?

I got sky+ in a sitting room and bedroom and then a regular sky box in the kitchen. The cabling was mostly done on the outside walls up along the soffit which is much better then I thought was going to be done, its quite neat, they brought the wires along down pipes where possible to tidy it up a bit and there is a facia plate on the wall outside where the wires come in. Had a bit of hassle getting 3 phone recievers to talk to one bass unit but the engineer sorted it for me.
