    Hi,

I have a laptop with a genuine Windows 7 installation on it. My Norton trial runs out this week and I wanted to change to a free anti-virus. Which would be a better option Microsoft Security or Avast? I currently have AVG on my desktop but Im not really happy with it.

I want something that is not much of a resource hog.

    Thanks.

I used to have avg but it started to miss some stuff. Changed to avast and it works really well.

Also consider 'antimalwarebytes' and 'ccleaner' to regularly clean up your computer. All free stuff and effective to boot.

Thats what I was thinking. Ive installed Avast and removed all Norton, I have Windows defender running as antispy ware, is this good or is there any better and also is there any other security software I should be running i.e. additional firewall or anythin?

    Thanks again.

I'd definitely recommend Microsoft Security Essentials, when I'm on Windows I find it's very fast at picking up an dodgy USB stick virus' which is the only thing I fear, since I'm very net savvy but an idiot plugged his USB into my computer and hit "Open folder to view files", which was a .exe masquerading as a windows function. It's also free and not bloated like all the other AVs out there.
