Thinking about getting a C3 secondhand as a first car (for me new provisional driver) and herself (experienced driver).
Our budget is in the 3,500 region so a 2003/2004. Anyone have any experience of these things?
We're looking for something that's safe, reliable that has a high driving position.
A quick google has bought up info on the reliability of the slipstream drive and some issues with the overall build quality, but since we're looking at the 1.1 petrol version with a normal gear box and aren't overly fusses about the interior I don't think there's much to worry about.
Anyone want to let me know if we're nuts or not?

This is always a good place to start when thinking of buying a car. if buying a fairly popular model (e.g. ford fiesta) don't be too put off by the "whats bad" section....with that many cars sold in the uk there will always be problems with some of each model.

    Another comprehensive review site.

    They are an excellent car.

The 1.4hdi is the one to buy. Massive MPG. 100 quid a year to service. Have one 8 years and no breakdowns or any reliability issues at all. Car still drives as new. Will be changing ours for a new C3 soon.

I sold mine a few weeks ago, when it was good it was great, nice to drive, good on fuel, loads of room inside, a really nice car to be fair. Then it developed an intermittent mis-fire and the thing broke my heart, took it everywhere and still couldn't get it fixed, new ignition coils, cam shaft sensor and it just got worse and worse. A shame really as I really liked it. The diesel version might be a better bet.
