Fishing on the river Barrow

Hello all.

Can anyone here shed any light on an issue thats been bothering me for a while?

I've been fishing for coarse fish on the river Barrow between Athy and Carlow for years, all fish are returned safely, never been aproached for a licence.

Recently I've been told by some friends in Dublin that I now need a licence to fish the river.

I can't find any info regarding any change to regulations and was hoping that someone can clear this up for me.

You need a rod license for all fishing anywhere except for private estates that are dotted around the place. Been this way for years.
