It's where people act out their wacky, Will Ferrell-film fantasies. Or as I prefer to call it, "The Inane Babbling" forum.
    *sighs*

And AH is where people act out their 8 Out of 10 Cats (but more like The Panel) fantasies. Or as I prefer to call it: The "When Will I be Famous?" Forum. Don't mock what you don't understand.

Feckin' world cup. I think we should have a "we was robbed, F U Thierry" thread and sticky it for all time.

I think it's meant to be where the threads that don't fit anywhere else go moreso, but it's more a forum in its own right imo.

I agree, hopefully the 'thanks' feature will be switched on there too, would make the place far better imo and a little busier.

I like to think that we can talk about whatever in AH (except sport).

Can we not fix something that clearly isn't broken? I know the Clique is annoying and all but it shouldn't require an Off-Topic thread.

    No! No soccer threads!

I think before the World Cup starts however there should be a sticky made directing people to the Soccer forum and advising them to apply for posting privileges.

Agree with you as well - no soccer at all.

There was a sticky thread created last year informing posters to go to the GAA forum to post after a few GAA threads were started in AH.

They should also enable users to thank single posts multiple times, and provide them with the ability to thank themselves should they see fit.

I am a bit p!ssed that the wishes of 55 users of this forum are going to be told suck it up. What is wrong with providing the users of this site something they want?. I really don't get that.

I hear you but shouldn't it be a case of if you don't want it stay away , you don't see me frequenting the politics or christianity forums , simply because I don't want them , it doesn't mean others can't use them.

Well see no. I believe it will change the dynamcis of the forum. And often when I go onto a new forum I see the 500 pager megathread and want to post. But then I look at it and realise I have no idea what all their in jokes and such are about and don't want to get bashed by the pedantic types for missing their salient point on page 253. I HAAAATTTTEEEE that. Its mere presence will affect the forum as a whole.

Alas I can't help myself but to post on the Christianity forum occasionally (hmm and the atheism forum for that matter - for some reason they are both equally alien mindsets to me)

I've said this all before but I'll stick it in here as well. It will detract from the forum. Stuff that would normally get a thread started about it will now just get posted in the off topic thread.

It won't get rid of off topic stuff in other threads simply because if you seen something in a thread and wanted to post something but realised it was off topic you'd hardly just post it in the off topic thread instead. If anything it will re-enforce off topic-ness as people will be used to it more. It happened with yore ma. The more it got posted the more it was posted until every single thread had yore ma posts all over the feckin place. It's a snowball effect. People could also forget that they aren't in the off topic thread.

Some people would spend most of their time there so this means that they won't be posting on other threads. This happened to me in BGRH. I rarely ventured out of the bar thread after a while because that where everything was happening. Eventually it just got too much to keep up with as the thread would move so fast and would have a butt load of new posts in it and I couldn't keep up with the forum. Hence why I stopped visiting the forum as I just found it becoming less fun for me. If the bar thread wasn't there I would probably visit BGRH more often.

None of this is speaking as a mod because I don't think the thread itself if it were created would require much mod action. They are usually pretty well behaved. The increased muppet and troll factor in after hours would make it more troublesome but not that much. I'm speaking as a user because I think an off topic thread will kill after hours and just make it a pain for me to use.
