Looking at the table, I feel like a bit of a pussy below all of you heroes who will be hammering around for the full 26.2...I doff my cap!

Nothing done yet - anyone can write a target down in a table! get back to me in 2 weeks and it could (but hopefully not) be a different story! And anyway - hats off to a sub 90min half marathon!!

    Hi Guys,
Just wondering if their has been any further information in relation to the route/race day organisiation? It had been said somewhere previously that problems may arise on the river bank due to gates and overgrown hedging. Also said that road closures would not be in place in certain areas. It would be great if anybody had info (especially the organisers!) as race day is getting very close :)

    Hi all,
Is there a closing date for registration for the marathon? I looked on the site but didn't find anything.
Am due to do the Antwerp marathon on Sunday but depending on volcanic ash I may not get to fly out on Saturday, Limerick will be a poor consolation but a consolation nonetheless!

when are you booked to fly? apparently things are looking up from wed morning onwards....apparently......

Not due to fly til Saturday so hopefully everything will be sorted by then, but in case it's not it'd be good to have Limerick to fall back on. After training for months it'd be horrible to be all ready and no place to run!

Hope it all turns out to be ok on Wednesday Red. Hard to stop running, I was tempted to keep going myself yesterday.

I do be looking forward to the taper then when I get there I think I havn't enough done.

    Taper madness it tell ya!!!!

Down to the serious business:-). Who is going for a drink the night of the marathon:-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,145 ✭✭✭baza1976

Well since I haven't had a drink since 12/3/10!!!!!! it would be a good idea, yes. It's so long I don't know if I'd be around for the 3rd round:o lol
Throw out some ideas for the pubs....... not the locke bar.... it will be so so so busy, but the river front outside might be nice....hmmmmmm

It is going to be a mental(but excellent) day in limerick. At 4:15 is the Heinken Cup semi-final - munster v biarritaz, on in biarritz so anyone not there will be in limerick!

A drink?....a drink?...what's this "a" drink business? Its a bank holiday weekend! The rugbys on! Our runs will have been a super success!

Whether I run or not, they're going to have to throw me out of the Curragower Bar (http://www.curragower.com/) because thats where I'll be heading and then I'm going to Nancy's but I probably won't get in there as the Tri club will be rocking it after their Joey Hannon Triathlon :).

I think one drink is enough to get me half-sozzled these days....had a few beers on Sunday afternoon and felt like I'd been hit by a bus.

Saw a flyer in UL last night for 5k and 10k races on Thursday 29th. Not sure of the exact details but guess it's been organised by the same crowd that did the winter series. Won't be taking part myself as I'll be encased in cotton wool at that stage :)

    Name|Category|Race|Target
    MarieC|F|Full|3:50 :P
    RedB|M|Full|3:49 :p :P
    Gilmore|M|Full|3:29
    Baza1976|M|Full|3:50
    Cartman|M|Full| 3:50
    Schnellimbiss|M|Half|1:25
    gaf1983|M|Half|1:45

Gonna aim for 1:45, though I got 1:40:30, my PB, in the Liverpool Half at the end of March, I've since then picked up a groin injury playing squash so haven't really been able to train properly. Plan on cycling the route this weekend to see what I'm letting myself in for.

Should be a cracking day in Limerick, the Heineken Cup game is on at 3.15 local time, unfortunately looks like I'll miss the atmosphere here as I have to travel up to Dublin for a 90th birthday party straight after the race.

pudgeydev, according to their facebook page, the organisers have extended the closing date for entry by a week, so you should have til the 26th/27th to get your entry in.

Anyone doing the full planning on running with any of the pacing groups?

I don't like to be negative but its annoying me a tad the way it seems that the only focus for getting info out about this marathon is through their facebook page and getting a new saying for the day is about it! everything else seems in-sufficient. the full marathon map is not detailed enough, they hope to have a copy of the route in a paper next week, otherwise, you can call to their office to look at it, which is only open mon-fri 9-5.

And yeah I probably did get out of the wrong side of the bed today....

Yeay Im back to jolly MarieC with not a care in the world! Obviously there was darker forces conspiring in the previous post to woo me to the side of negativity. I shall resist tho........ :p

I fully agree with your comments Mariec. The organisers have done little to quell the bad rumours which have been circulating over the past months. Will there be full road closures? Have the issues on the riverbank been resolved? etc. It would be nice see more transparancy and a detailed map would be very handy! Having experienced the Cork City Marathon last year and seen the superbly run event at first hand, Limerick aint looking so "Great". Im hoping that things will turn out ok on the day, although with the event only 10 days away, I'm not being filled with much confidence

    Be annoyed and be negative.
The organisers are not giving vital information to the participants.
We were bemoaning the fact that the route for the Cork City Marathon was being changed this year end we had heard nothing by Feb re changes.
Organisers finally released details (and I mean DETAILS) of the changes on 22nd Feb.
The marathon takes place on 7th June.

Has anyone tried calling them? Here's their contact details:
    http://www.greatlimerickrun.com/contact.html

Maybe put together a list of questions, and have someone give them a call?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 918 ✭✭✭MarieC

just rang them there about acquiring a map of the route, a proper one. They are going to ring me back about it. So I was thinking, I might be as well off to call in to their offices maybe early next week. If people want me to ask them questions on their behalf please add them to the list below, and I will see what I can find out.
    1. Proper Route Map
    2. Email notification he said the email re. collecting race packs is going out on monday next

Thanks MarieC. I suspect people would be interested in getting the following answers:
    3. Will water be in bottles or cups?
    4. Will there be sports drinks / gels, if so which type?
    5. Number of people running the marathon
    6. Will the roads be closed and junctions marshalled?
    7. Those e-bends / s-bends mentioned previously. Story?!
    Thanks!

    Hey Guys...

I couldnt wait to find out all these questions so i rang them myself!!

Now I didnt get through all the questions but I got some which should save Marie C from having a 10 page list of questions going in ;)

The guy said that there is a proper race route in the office and if I lived in Limerick there is no problem calling in to see it…
Some roads will be fully closed.. others will be partially closed through the use of cones.. the term used was “rolling road closures” and there will be loads of stewards!
There will be portaloos at each water station, The water will be in cups and there will be Lucozade sport in bottles. There will also be lucozade sport Gels (which I wish I knw earlier so I wouldn’t have spent money on others!!!!):D.
Mile 3/9/15 – Water and Lucozade
Mile 12/18 – Water and Lucozade Gel
    Mile 21/24 - Water

Any other questions... i think somebody else should ask!

While I accept that there are immovable objects on the riverbank, there is one C-type gate just after the Boatclub that could have its central section temporarily removed by undoing 2 bolts. It can be put back in position after the run has passed.

There is a large gate midway on the canal stretch that could be opened and there are removable bollards at the side of either end of the second half of the canal stretch. These are designed to be opened and should be opened for the approx 2 hours involved on this stretch.

The above areas will stop runners as they navigate them. Its a marathon, not an obstacle course. Limerick City Council should be able to facilitate reasonable requests that the above obstacles be temporarily removed. If the organisers confirm that the Council won't do this, can someone let us know and I'll try to take it up with the local public representatives.

My other concern would be that the route is tidy as otherwise it'll be a poor reflection on an otherwise good route and city. A County Council litter crew should travel the route next week and remove debris, especially on the backroad section past Old Crescent RFC to the Golf Club and back into Raheen.
