Could we not just try out an off topic thread for 2 weeks or so and then close it if it becomes a troll fest?

Maybe to you they mean nothing but I don't think Admin we quite see it like that.

Maybe they won't act solely to please one small demographic, but I'm sure they won't think that the Poll "means nothing".

Changes are happening on Boards, positive ones.

Trustees will soon be place to represent opinions of Boards members in a way like never before.

You are very dismissive of the ordinary Boards members views for some reason, you come across as if MOD's opinions are all that matters and that's that, like it or lump it.

A member already picked you up on the fact the you were treating users suggestions with little respect and addressing them as if they were bold school children.

    Answer is still a NO

    I don't recall asking you a question.

    Let me be clear.

I set this Poll up to ask ALL After Hours frequenters would they support a trial run of an 'Off-topic' thread.

When the voting closes, I will go back to the thread in Feedback and present the numbers to Admin. If they wish to consult AH MODs, which I am sure they will, so be it.

If nothing comes of it, fine.

Whatever happens, it won't be just Rabies saying "NO" though, it will be Admin, based on many factors I'm sure.

    Que Sera, Sera.

When setting it up, I didn't select a specific date.

I have PM'd Biko and asked it him to set it for a decent length of time (at least a week).

That way, as many AH's regulars can get to have their vote, come what may.

The damn Yes vote isn't performing against the No as hoped for.

The poll should be duplicated across every category on boards, tweaked so that Yes votes count as double and the close date extended to 2017.

That's a bloody good point actually. Using the off topic thread as a stick to beat posters with
"Take it to the off topic thread."
Could kill the fun in the existing threads too.
But half the off-topic chat I've seen has had a mod respond with "take it to PM/MSN etc."

I'm on the fence for this one, though. I can see the pros and cons of both sides. I'm a chatter, I sprout bullshit constantly, it'd be nice to have a place to do it.

Wouldn't/don't private forum just encourage cliques rather than stamp them out?
I started using C&H quite often a few months ago (I haven't posted much on boards the past few weeks though) and the off-topic thread there is great - everyone's welcome, and everyone's friendly. Obviously, over time, banter becomes easier with people you're more familiar with, but it's nice to have somewhere to get to know people in the first place.

But yeah, on the other hand, I'd imagine it'd be a bugger to mod.

    Que Sera, Sera.

My comment about the poll having no merit comes from Admins saying the polls for forum creations or appointing mods. Its been said before.

I look forward to the Trustees coming on Boards. You've made them sound like the white knight

The bit you're missing is not everyone disagrees with me. I don't expect everyone to agree either. Where's the fun in that? We'd miss the point of a discussion forum. The reasoning behind my actions have been given and most of the AH mods along with myself have given their reason as to why a chat thread is not happening.

I have no problem with you going to the Admins with the results of a poll. Doesn't matter if the votes go the other or to the fence sitters. Not much will change from me. Not sure about the others. The Admins often call in to the AH mod forum to say hi, talk about some topics and have a cup of tea. We're not the nasty neighbours that no one visits.

Its not just me saying "No" to this. I'm just more vocal on it since most of the questions are directed my way.

Sport threads when they have a significant 'current affair' aspect to them should be allowed in my opinion.

Say that when you are appointed to mod those threads, that actually belong elswhere for a reason.

    OutlawPete wrote: »
There is a common theory that if something is currently a topic of conversation down the pub, then you should be able to start a thread on it.

Not always, but some users like yourself actually take that as a given and the AH mods then have to delete all sorts of porn and racism posts because that might be alright to talk about in a pub.

I can see where you are coming from but Boards is not a Pub, and AHs is just one forum in the whole of things.

Just because you might get away with it in * a pub... doesn't make it ok in AHs.

When the Grand National was on, a bunch of threads got closed, why?

I closed one, as there is a forum for racing.

I recieved a PM from the OP asking me to open it.

Real life stuff got in the way and again I got to reopen it I think the race had started, from what I remember anyway.

Say that when you are appointed to mod those threads, that actually belong elswhere for a reason.

One Grand National thread would not have taken much modding.

I would say deleting the ones that were starting and dealing with the angry PMs was more of a headache than the modding of one thread would have been.

The same will happen when the World Cup starts in June.

Threads will be started everytime something significant happens in South Africa.

England player gets sent off, France lose, France win, Holligans, France Cheat, Referee makes a serious error, fans flash bewbs live on TV etc etc.

ALL these threads will be locked and people will be told: The Soccer Forum is THAT way
    >

If After Hours does not allow one thread for the four weeks of the World Cup, then you better get ready to delete threads every hour for the four weeks.
but some users like yourself actually take that as a given and the AH mods then have to delete all sorts of porn and racism posts because that might be alright to talk about in a pub.

Can you clarify this immediately please?

When have I ever posted "porn" or "racist" remarks?

I recieved a PM from the OP asking me to open it.

Real life stuff got in the way and again I got to reopen it I think the race had started, from what I remember anyway.

It should have been planned for.

Everyone and their dog knew the Grand National was on.
Can we just wait and see, before you second guess them?
Shall we wait and see then, before you say how sure you are as to what the outcome will be.

    Are you serious?

I am saying wait and see what Admin say, and you post the above?

It is not the Yes side of this debate that is second guessing the outcome.

May I remind you that it is Mods that have posted that "Won't happen" and "Will never happen" etc

That has not yet been discussed in the AH mod forum.

Suggesting a thread for the World Cup is NOT telling you or anyone else what to do, it is just a suggestion.

One which I am entitled to make, along with all other members of Boards, especially considering that there is a blanket ban on Sports threads.
