Cost of Punto 1.2 8v gearbox and clutch?

Hi all,

My brothers car has developed a noise in the gearbox and he has been told he needs a new gearbox and to do the clutch at the same time.

He has a few quotes in so far to do this, ranging from €800 to €2100 !!!!! :mad:

What should be the price and anyone know any company that would do it for him around the Cork area please?

The Gearbox in my Leon developed a noise last year. Turned out to be on it's last legs by the time I got it done after the dealer saying continually it's grand. I had all sort of crazy quotes to put it right.

Cork Gearbox Centre in Little Island is where I took it to in the end. He rebuilt the gearbox, replaced release bearing for €950. I was lucky in that he said my clutch was too fresh to replace plus he gave me a car for the few days it was being done. AFAIK he's the only guy in Cork actually rebuilding them. It's a cheaper option than say Henersons in the Marina Commercial Park who just get the boxes from Naas Gearbox Centre anyway.

hi all, that guy Brian tricking people! my audis a6 auto gearbox braked down and i came to that "God" Brian,in few seconds hi told me hi knows the problem and can fix it, will cost 1500 euros for me (second hand box 1000) and hi said hi will do in 3 -4 days time and will give guaranty for 60000 miles for that gearbox ! I agreed ! after 4 day I rang to him and asked:
-whats the story ?
hi said:
-hi will need extra 950 for parts!
I agreed again because i hadn't any other choice at that moment.

finally gear box was fixed in 15 days time, I went to collect the car and pay nearly double sum and find out than I getting just
10000 km or 6 month guaranty with comes first... I was stressed about that but couldn't do nothing I just want faster get my car back....

after few weeks of driving I noticed some problems and back to him again hi said to me it should be like this.but I explained to him than it wasn't before like this after that hi said drive for another few weeks and we will see that will happens. I drove and happened !!!!
Now is 5 weeks time then the car was left at his garage in "Cork Gear Box Center" and will stay where for a minimum 2 weeks else
I don't have a car for 5 weeks and I don't know what really happened.......
I m very disappointed of this person and do not recommend to any one!!!!!!!!

Its 3 years older than when he got the gearbox done. Im sure if cork gearbox centre is really dodgy itll have closed down by now
