Owen Heary has to be included. One of the best defenders around.

Judged on the season so far.

Time has caught up with him.

Whatever about your general posting, but that was fairly funny.

Would have preffered it to be two Irish teams, tbh, whether that be LoI XI v Ireland or Rover v Bohs. Hope I can get tickets for it whatever the game.

Good points and bad points for Rovers v Bohs. Big games between them tend to be atrocious, abysmal games...even for some non-neutrals like the last two games last season..

Conan Byrne fairly decent for Sporting Fingal as well. And obviously put in Jason Byrne given he is a class finisher

DAMN THOSE PEOPLE!!! THEY DONT KNOW HOW TO HAVE FUN AT ALL!!! you have such high expectations of fun and entertainment it must be like hanging around with John Cleese.

they want money. they want to try and show UEFA how great a venue it is and they want to garauntee as much cash as possible. by inviting the worlds biggest football team(tm) they think they have found the way to do this. stop being so fukin bitter and take it for what it is - a money spinner.
its not a spit in the face to LoI fans, its not ignoring them and with how little money there is in the government and sporting institutions maybe (and i know this will be hard to swallow for a level 14 such as yourself) you should be grateful for more money being put into sport in this country, as by all accounts it needs it. maybe you should give less of a sh1t of how this money is being generated
It doesn't really matter who plays there if all they're concerned about is showing what a great venue it is. They already have the Europa League final in 2011 as well. Fact of the matter is they could have looked after their own and given the league some much needed good press but instead the day will turn into a haven for green and gold scarves :(

Maybe they wanted to showcase something a bit sooner so people don't lose interest because of the long wait?! :-)

Personally i would have thought a playing the Irish international side against the best of the LOI would have made a better game.

I at least hope united bring over their first choice players rather than a squad made up mostly of reserves.

LOI legend but his legs are gone, been poor this season, injured for a lot of last.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Season ticket holders at LOI clubs should definitely be given first option on this, would hate to see this any more full of United shirts cheering against their own nation than it needs to be. Sickening stuff.

    Wtf are the FAI thinking.

Surely they can make a few quid without drafting Manchester in to milk the barstoolers? I dont think the Republic Of Ireland have any major commitments this summer?

Its just so indicitave of the FAIs attitude, finally get a new stadium and the first event in it is marketed towards barstool gob****es instead of using it to promote Irish football.

Security would have to be tight if Man Utd came over too, heard the Dundrum Devils hooligan group are up for a mill with a seleced LoI group :D also might have some Man City fans turning up with shotguns*.:P

Nothing pisses me off more than barstolling hooligans, we're here making trouble every week and they go over once or twice a year and think they're real hard men? Pfft.

Them Cork lads who were in Tolka on Friday were proper naughty, matching Lyle & Scott jackets and then chanting "Hoo Hoo Hooligans", never heard a bigger laugh in Tolka, ever!

This is the one and only time I'd like to see half the tickets go to touts so they can utterly fleece barstoolers.

The other half of course should be distibuted to LoI clubs.

Cause I am sure the Clubs that the irish international players play for are just going to release their players for the weekend of August 7th/8th, a day not sanctioned for international football, so that the national team can play a LoI XI. I'm sure that was something that was 99% sure to happen.

Also, you are so right that Irish football is not being marketed. I can't believe they are going to get United to play Raith Rovers at the Aviva stadium? Oh wait, it is not Raith Rovers? What, it is actually going to be a team of, potentially, the best talent in the LoI? That shocking... that seems like it could be seen as some sort of exposure for the LoI.... surely that isn't right, the FAI wouldn't do that.

Also, did you hear the rumours of Pats playing Barca at Croker in the summer - how effing disgraceful would that be. Playing a game against a foreign side - not the national side, not a sunday league team... but a foreign side, at a GAA pitch! Horrible stuff.

As if anyone is going to go see Man United or Barcelona play this summer and be anyway impressed with the ability or commitment of the LoI players. Don't know what people do be thinking.

Of course the game should have been Shams vs Bohs. I mean of course they would fill out the 25k seats. They normally do for their league games. What, the capacity of the stadiums is nowhere near that AND they don't fill it anyway? Then where would the other 20k fans needed come from? Non-regular barstool event junkies? But.... that is very similar to what people are giving out about. that doesn't make sense at all.

If the match does involve a LOI select playing United, just have the tickets strictly divided between members/season ticket holders of the LOI clubs and an allocation sent to Manchester for similar.

It’s a nice thought, but I think we both know that most of the attendees will be solely interested in seeing the likes of Nani, Rooney and Berbatov showcasing their talents and will take little notice of the opposition, regardless of how well they acquit themselves. LOI sides have given extremely good accounts of themselves in Europe over the last few years – has anyone in the general footballing public taken any notice?

Two chances. It'll be ticketmaster all the way and the ground will be (half) full of kids cheering on Nani and the other millionaires. There'll be no segregation and therefore no atmosphere but it'll be a lovely day out for the kids.

Honestly don't think I'll be bothered at all, especially as I doubt you'll get much changer from €50 for a ticket.

This thread is hilarious. All the LOI fans come out out the woodwork to act all high and mighty about supporting local teams.

Excuse me for being more interested in a much higher standard, and more entertaining brand of football.

And sure we'd have that if the million or so people in this country actually supported the League, but sure take the easy option.

Because it would be unfair on the LoI fans and Mancs if all the tickets are snapped up by people who are regulars at neither.

    Fine. Manchester is thataway. Enjoy.

The issue here is why the LoI should pass up a great day out to market our product in the stadium we helped build so you can see your 'hero's' in the flesh with your green and yellow scarf on.

The FAI should not be shafting its professional game to accomodate people who contribute nothing whatsoever to domestic football.
