We've been linked with 2 cms today.milner and a greek. Makes a nice change from strikers

Their front page headline is gold though:

Milner? Thanks but no thanks, he has one good season so far. Id rather we signed Modric. He was very good against Arsenal the other night.

    Whos the greek?

I would be perfectly happy if Rodwell + Milner was the extent of our summer fun.

Rodwell isn't even first choice at Everton. Is he?

At a stretch, Milner is decent and Rodwell is a gamble.

If that is the extent of our summer signing I will not be happy in the least.

Heard on the news this morning that United could be over to play at the new Lansdowne in August against a LOI XI. About time we got a pre season game.

I think SAF needs to raise the bar in signing two quality midfield players in the summer.

I would be happy if we got Milner in the summer, I think he is a very good player. However, i would only really be happy with him as a squad addition. He would be excellent cover across midfield and the full back positions. I would prefer Milner to Park. However, if we were looking to Milner to be the player we are missing in midfield, I would not be happy.

He has been listed as one of the 3 players I would like United to sing this summer. the others being Gourcuff (or another creative CM) and a more defensive minded midfielder (Rodwell, Kacar etc). The creative and defensive midfielder would be my priority over Milner.

That would be great - would certainly be looking to get my hands on tickets for that. fingers crossed (Boards.ie Man United Team Talk/Gossip/Rumours Thread meet up anyone??)

Milner won't do much that Fletcher isn't already doing IMO.

he's very good, excellent in fact, but not what you need to get to the next level again.

Resigning Scholes to a bit part next season.

Assuming Carrick continues down the road of doom and Hargreaves is put down.

A ball playing central midfielder with defensive qualities becomes the most important signing for us IMO.

Hargo really is fúckíng up the midfield. If we were assured he was fit, we could afford to sign a top qualitity out and out attacking midfielder, knowing that Fletcher and Hargo could let him forward without worries.

I'm all for signing potential, People might forget Fergie already signed replacements for Giggs and Scholes in Nani and Anderson.

Rodwell for 20 million would be the wrong move, now is the time for established experienced players that would not cost that much more.

So for me at this stage in the squads development its a no on Rodwell. Big No.

Would be sweet alright. Actually remember seeing it in the Star I think about 3 weeks ago. I'd imagine tickets would be like gold dust though.

I heard America as well but with Man City heading over as well it might change. Might hear some news on it in the next few weeks.

fair enough, I understand where you are coming from with Rodwell. For me, signing him kinda depends on Hargreaves. If Hargreaves is back at a decent level and his appearances could be planned and managed (and not have him penciled in for a game vs Chelsea only for him to break down that morning) then he could be the experienced more defensive player we need, while Rodwell would be able to play in most of our premiership games to gain experience. He has fantastic potential imo.

If Hargreaves is gonna be a crock again next season, then we need to sign a more experienced and tried player.

I would like the following midfield:

    Valencia - Fletcher - Gourcuff-Hargreaves-Nani

    Backing that up could be:

Milner - Carrick- Scholes - Rodwell - Park.

Of course, those are just indicators. Gourcuff being an AMC and Hargreaves being a DMC, two positions I think we need to sort this summer. I feel we are likely to mainly stick to 451, and as such I think we need a defensive player to share the defensive responsibility with Fletcher, and a creative player to make use of the ball and provide good support to our wingers and striker. Lack of control in midfield is what has let us down this season. I do think Scholes could still be of use in a 451 in that AMC role, as long as we have a midfield duo backing him up and letting him just get on with passing the ball. Gibson could also be a decent option there, where he is alloswed to play a freer role and get into positions to shoot from (as Lampard does, for example)

EDIT: Yaya Toure would be a good option for the more defensive role, imo. Himself and Fletcher would be a nicely combative combo and i feel both would support a creative attacking midfielder, such as Gourcuff, very well, and give us a much better platform against the bigger domestic and european sides.

I wouldnt worry if Giggs or Ferdinand dont make it tomorrow, i think we have enough cover to cope with City.

    more On Rooney
SAF: Wayne Rooney done good work in last few days. Wait today to see what he's like for tomorrow

Sir Alex says Rooney wants to play (there's a surprise!), but have to make sure he is fit

    edit

    on transfers
SAF on transfers: We may sign 1 player, maybe 2. We have good structure, maybe tweak here and there. We like signing young players

    another edit
Owen Hargreaves trained yesterday and is in the squad for tomorrow #mufc
vanbis do you want to do that bet again ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,232 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

I hope it is 2 players (at least) and that they are top quality signings. If we are only going for two, both need to be very, very good players now.

id put money it Mitch that it will be hardly known players like the likes of obertan, cheap ****ing players and just hoping they go on to make something of themselves

    edit

I reckon we wont even break the 20m mark

Is that the squad for the reserves? Or the first team?
