Can't see how Carricks performances can be linked with Hargreaves. Carricks first year was without Hargreaves and he was good, he has also been good the last two years as well. He has only really been poor this year. If it can be linked to anything it could be the ageing of Scholes.

United need someone who can take a free kick, its so important. Especially in the really tight games.

Corners, too. Our set pieces are just sh*t this season.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,608 ✭✭✭Spud83

Think its the targets rather than the delivery. Vidic and Rio are our only real threats, a combination of them missing a load of games, and the fact its easier to defend when you only really have to concentrate on two people means we may as well give the opposition a goal kick.

Aye, Corners too, its so important to have both, it gives you an advantage, Ars and Chelsea both have about 2 great free kick takers each at least. United do be struggling, Rooney hasn't scored one this season, think Giggs might have got one in the league only and Nani one.

Carrick is the most over rated player of all time, how can someone spend the guts of 16 million or so for a player to stand in the centre of the park and pass the ball left and right is beyond me. He's awful.

They'd do better to get rid of Domenech now!

Descibes him ok now, but in his first two seasons he was far better and that discripition does him a disservice imo. He was a big part of our Prem win in 06/07 and again in 07/08. Was important in our CL run that season too. Last season was average for him, and this season has been poor.

He wasn't far better he just had players around him doing their jobs, now that Scholes, Giggs and Hargreaves aren't doing the biz, it shines more light on his ability or inability to offer anything of worth... crap player... I'd honestly give him away from free.

when is the last time a a goal keeper with the abilities of Lloris flopped when they moved ? regarding pressure, he's France no 1 keeper, I think he can handle pressure.

Look, the kid is a great 'keeper and very young. But he has flaws too as evidenced in the Bordeaux game. Bayern should be a bigger test again. And then the World Cup.

If we wait till the world cup both youth prospects will sky rocket in price...

So Real Madrid wasn't a big test? Or countless other games?

    Which means....

-Gourcuff's great relationship with Blanc ends and he wants to leave Bordeaux.
-We swoop in with a bid for Gourcuff.
-Fergie rings Blanc who rings Gourcuff and tells him how great United is.
    -Gourcuff signs for Manchester United.
    -Gourcuff plays centrally and creatively.
-Gourcuff scores numerous free-kicks and delivers great corners.
    -Gourcuff wins the Ballon D'Or.
    -Manchester United win the treble.

    Sorted lads. ;)

Vidic is the only real threat from corners, if i was manager Ferdinand would be the last person id worry about. He is afraid to head the ball and put his neck on the line at times unlike Vidic, Bolton a being a good example.

He can also play on the left and in goals for cup games, to give VDS a rest.

some kind words from Evra to Raf
Patrice Evra is convinced fellow Manchester United full-back Rafael will emerge stronger for his red card torment against Bayern Munich last week.

Most pundits have pointed to the youngster's dismissal early in the second half as the pivotal moment in a Champions League quarter-final United appeared to have under control.

As the Red Devils subsequently failed to overcome Blackburn at Ewood Park to slip four points adrift of Premier League leaders Chelsea, it appears as though it will be a seminal moment in United's entire campaign.

Yet Evra is confident the Old Trafford outfit will gain a major benefit in the long run, as he is convinced Rafael is destined for great things.

"It is a good experience for Rafael and he will definitely be a better player because of what happened," said Evra.

"When he gets some experience he will be different class.

"I know Rafael's mentality. I am sure about him. He has a lot of hunger.

"This was just part of the development process. He will go on to become one of the best right-backs Manchester United have ever had."

Evra was older and more experienced when he arrived at United in a £5million deal from Monaco in January 2005.

Yet even he struggled at first, which is why he feels confident about Rafael.

"When I came here I was 24. I was already playing with the French national team and had reached the final of the Champions League with Monaco," said Evra.

"But the first six months were difficult.

"It was a big slap in my face. But I had enough experience and character to do much better and show why Manchester United bought me from Monaco."

Not that he views the young Brazilian as the bad guy.

Given the way Bayern used all their experience to pressurise the referee into sending Rafael off, Evra feels the dismissal could have happened to anyone.

"Rafa did something that maybe, with more experience, he would not do," reflected Evra.

"But I am not certain. Someone might make the same mistake at 32.

"The point is, you need to make mistakes to become a big player.

"You learn. You have to be mentally strong because anyone can do something stupid."

    got to love Evra

Of course they were. But he's made mistakes in games. He came flapping at a couple long ball from a free that nearly cost a goal against Bordeaux. It's all well and good making a world class save from the top corner of the net but if you follow that up by running out to punch a ball and miss it, then big teams will make you pay. Can you imagine the likes of Chelsea/Stoke/Blackburn letting the goalkeeper come running out and punching the ball so easily?

Look, I think he's a good 'keeper with bags of potential with a few small things to iron out. But at United, a goalkeeper has got to be at it from the word go. VDS has made next to no mistakes during his time at United, has been consistent, has been dominant in the air and has been a super shot stopper.

He's not the 'super duper bestest 'keeper in the world' as he's being bigged up as at the minute.

he basically has been for most of the season anyway.

his actions on the pitch, and comments off it speak volumes. he is one of the leaders, and also has that one-minded, 'Utd are the best so f*ck the rest of you' mentality, that fans adore.

I know the competition is tight, but I think he's the best left back in the world, Cashley is excellent but Evra going forward rarely looses possession and always adds something to United...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,838 ✭✭✭✭3hn2givr7mx1sc

Next season I'd love to see Evra as captain and Fletcher as vice-captain, but Fergie will stick with Neville/Giggs/Ferdinand I'd say.

Dunno if anybodies calling him that but VDS does flap at things sometimes. Every keeper makes mistakes.

The reason against Bord he had to make crazy decisions is that his defence in front of him were not bothering challenging Chamakh in the air, so every time he had a free header, Lloris had no option but to charge out.

Almost feel bad for poor Fabio, he's not going to get a sniff at United with Evra playing consistently good year in year out

If Hargreaves breaks down again, we should have a look at Mark Noble (West Ham) . Looks to have a great engine, a real box to box player, don't think West Ham would be where they are now had he not been out injured. Even though he's been out this season, don't think he's a sick note.

Steven Ireland is precisely the type of player Man U need. Excellent defensively, can score and set up goals, great energy and industry. With him being a peripheral figure under Mancini, a move isn't beyond the realms of possibility.
