I'd have Nani as second choice right winger myself, behind Val. His best performance s usually come on the right. I think a top class left sided player is needed almost as much as a central midfielder. Giggs can still do a job there as back up, as can Nani.

I think Obertan is too inconsistent. I'd have him as back up to the 4 first team wingers (inclusive of a new option)

ya your right, they're both inconsistent in my eyes. btw you should be shot for mentioning Young :D

I think he has a lot of potential. Found it hard to think of many players we could buy for the left side (and yeah, Young is right footed so it would be like Nani again)

Di Maria is teh best LW option out there IMO. But there will be massive competition for his signature which will make him a ridiculous price.

Disappointed United didn't get Johnsen from Boro in Jan, he looks a real talent.:(

Also bearing in mind that it appears both Barca and Madrid will be looking at left sided options in the Summer makes it an even more difficult marketplace in which to shop.

it's a very hard one alright, personally I quite like Mata & with Valencia needing to sell, I would think he would be high on clubs wish list

there was rumours going around that Johnson was at Carrington and given a guided tour but for some reason utd didnt conclude the deal

Nani has been the only big game goal scorer we've had besides Rooney and Park. I think he's got the potential to be significantly better than Valencia, and as such, I'd prefer him. But I think those two on the wings is a pretty decent combination, once the centre midfield is decent enough to get the ball to them and the fullbacks provide good options.

i dont think madrid would be like they have a lot of cover in the left side of the park for ronaldo. VDV can play the left side :)

oh and for the obertan debate hes very raw but im a huge fan of the guy he will come good :)

This will be our team on June 1st:

    Goalkeepers:
    • Edwin van der Sar - One more year please
    • Tomasz Kuszczak - Good 3rd choice Keeper
    • Ben Foster - Can move on
    • Ron-Robert Zieler - Give him another year after that injury
    • Ben Amos - Hope he goes on loan to a Championship team
    • Tom Heaton - Can move on
    • Conor Devlin - Reserves

    Defenders
    • Patrice Evra - No comment needed
    • Gary Neville - One more year, can be ok cover when needed
    • Fabio - Had a few niggles since joined, I hope to see him come on more next season
    • Rafael - No comment needed.
    • Rio Ferdinand - Lost maybe a yard in pace but has had a few problems with injury this season. He'll come good again
    • Nemanja Vidic - No comment needed
    • John O'Shea - Great utility player, no more, no less
    • Wes Brown - Too injury prone, maybe it's time for a change for Wes.
    • Chis Smalling - Not impressed but is coming never the less
    • Ritchie De Laet - Loan to PL side
    • Jonny Evans - Jonny will push for first team starting next year IMO
    • Craig Cathcart - Can move on
    • Oliver Gill - Reserves
    • Joe Dudgeon - Reserves
    • James Chester - Nasty injury early on this season, loan spell again IMO
    • Reece Brown - Reserves
    • Scott Moffatt - Reserves
    • Scott Woott - Reserves

    Midfielders(Including Wingers):
    • Owen Hargreaves - Injuries, hopefully can stay fit.
    • Paul Scholes - Time to call it a day
    • Ryan Giggs - Unsure about Giggs, myabe he should retire for his sake
    • Antonio Valencia - Good solid buy, has lots to offer
    • Nani - Coming on good this year
    • Park Ji-Sung - Fergie likes him, he'll be here next year.
    • Darron Gibson - Great shot, average midfielder. Hopefully will round off his game a bit more next year. Maybe a loan spell in the PL would be good.
    • Tom Cleverley - Loan to PL
    • Darren Fletcher - No comment needed
    • Michael Carrick - Don't get me started, get out. A shadow of his 06/07 season
    • Anderson - Seems to have gone backwards, like it or not with his injury he'll be here next year
    • Gabriel Obertan - Hopefully will come on more next season.
    • Corry Evans - Loan
    • David Gray - Unsure, maybe another year.
    • Matt James - Another Loan
    • Magnus Wolff Eikrem - Reserves
    • Zoran Tosic - Bye, bye
    • Cameron Stewart - Neat player, I like him a lot. Reserves again me thinks
    • Oliver Norwood - Reserves
    • Rodrigo Possebon - Cya!
    • Robert Brady - Reserves
    • Danny Drinkwater - Reserves/Sold
    • Sam Hewson - Can leave
    • Davide Petrucci - Suffers from very bad growth spurts! Reserves if he's fit.

    Forwards:
    • Michael Owen - Keep. Can be very handy.
    • Dimitar Berbatov - Another year
    • Wayne Rooney - No comment needed
    • Danny Welbeck - Can be sold IMO
    • Federico Macheda - Loaned to PL
    • Mame Biram Diouf - Loan
    • Javier Hernández - Haven't a clue about this guy.
    • Joshua King - Reserves
    • Nicholas Ajose - Reserves
    • Febian Brandy - Not bought on this guy at all, unsure tho, some nice footwork.

    Badly needed:

Two centre midfielders and a Winger

Gourcuff, Rodwell, Milner, Hamsik, Diego, Moutinho, Dafour or Banega. Any of those two would be unbelievable. Particularly Banega and Gourcuff.

Di Maria, Mata or David Silva are the only three I can see making a difference in the team that would be actually possible to get.

    Would be nice:

    Striker

Somebody to play with Rooney or can lead the line. Only one guy comes to mind, and it's not going to happen. David Villa.

How did Di Maria play vs Liverpool on Thursday?

Ronaldo doesn't really play left side for Madrid though, he playes up front or in a free role beside Higuain.

And VdV has played quite a lot in teh centre and is at best a stop gap solution on teh left.

A lot of the time that Braziliann left back whose name escapes me has been playing on the left for Madrid.

Poor, but so did the whole team. I was at the first leg in the Estadio da Luz and he was by far Benifca's best player.

Not great, johnson had his number. But he looks a quality player and was really dangerous in the first leg.

    Marcelo.

What we need imo is a marquee signing, one who will have the fans lining up outside Old Trafford to get a glimpse of, the way Berba did ironically. Im not going to mention Yoann Gourcuff again because at this stage my Mum knows that he is who I would have linking up with Rooney. Last summer I made posts about how i really wanted us to sign Diego, Snjieder, Van Der Vaart and Robben. We didnt, and all of those players have had very good seasons for their clubs. I wont do the same again this year because its just upsetting.

Anybody hear anymore on Liverpool trying to sign our academy player John Cofie?

    Apparently very highly rated...

Anyone follow dutch football much? Any opinions or info on Luis Suarez?

From what I have read about him, he is a player with a fantastic goal scoring record (though in the dutch league where numerous flops have scored greatly - as well as Romario, Ronaldo and Ruud) and can play up front and on the left wing? Would that be accurate with regards to the positions he plays? If so, would he be a good option for United with the left wing and possibly up front needing more quality?

Sporting Lisbon are primed to sign Manchester United full-back Fabio da Silva on loan. The Portuguse side, who are looking at bringing in Steve McClaren as their new coach, are waiting for a decision from United with the 19-year-old failing to have made the same impression as his twin brother Rafael. (Daily Mail)

Would be a good move for him on loan I reckon. Keep relations sweet :D

I was shouting his name before and Gordon Mcqueen raved about him a few times saying he was surprised none of the so called top teams came in from him. Id say if Johnson had of waited until the summer when he could move on a free, then the likes of Manutd, Arsenal, Chelsea would have a made a move but he had his sights set on the World cup.

Di Maria of benfica will cost big money, he was very good in the first half of the first leg against L'pool but after that and the second leg he was poor.

I've said it a while now, we need at least 4 top signings. A striker, Two midfielders and LW. I personally think this summer is going to be one of frustration for us Manutd fans.

That would be a terrible move for him IMO. The chap has been unlucky in his time at United though, unlucky with injuries to himself, and unlucky that Evra has been like a machine this year.

On Gourcuff, i thought AC Milan owned bought him and only loaned him to Bordeaux?

    you thought wrong.:p

they loaned him to Bordeaux last season, and there was an option to buy for 15million euro, or something close to that, which Bordeaux utilised to sign him properly last season. Milan wanted Gourcuff to come back, but Gourcuff didn't like how he had been treated and said he would not go back.

I just wasn't sure if everyone knew, i didnt know Bordeaux had paid a fee either. I wouldn't be getting my hopes up either about him signing. The next few months will be one of frustration with gossip and maybe another average joe like Carrick signing..........so there :P

Gourcuff would cost around 25m or so I would say, would definitely be worth it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 42,549 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

Not too sure about Gourcuff anymore.

    He is going backwards IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 700 ✭✭✭Prufrock

Fergie has someone in mind I'd say. Dropping Carrick shows his intent to buy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,687 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

Fergie's not going to overpay, so you can forget about Gourcuff.

you'd be paying silly money for a guy who, essentially, is still unproven at the highest level.. he'd be a gamble however you look at it. unless you got him for under 15m, which isn't going to happen outside of your dreams.

Fergie's not stupid, he'll be scouring the globe for a creative CM at the right price.
