Girls who say they "have" to wear make up for work?

It's a catch 22 for some women, they wear the make-up to hide bad skin but the more they wear it the worse their skin gets. I hardly ever wear make-up and I have lovely skin so don't need to wear make-up.
I know a lot of my friends can't leave the house with out make-up so are probably using the "I have to for work" as an excuse.

Any girls I've met who wear a lot of makeup end up with bad skin, then more makeup. Its not sustainable at all. A little looks better and is better for you. Plus I've never met a man who thinks lots of makeup looks better than a small amount applied well, not that you necessarily wear it to impress men of course, but I'm sure the occasional bit of handsome stranger eye contact is good for the self esteem!

That's my advice for the day ladies. Use it, don't abuse it.

well i know some women that look totaly diffrent without make up... i thought one girl was sick, and still do anytime i see her without make up, she only puts a small amount on compared to some who need a chisel or even a jackhammer to get off the oompa lumpa orange/ red as the devils dick blusher.

There are a few commonly spouted myths about makeup, one of them is 'men prefer natural'....what that actually means is if you show a man a beautiful woman with and without make up, they will prefer the natural look but only on a beautiful woman.

However the same does not apply with plain women, show them a pic of the plain woman with and without make up and they will pick the made up plain woman.

    FACT !!!

I'm ordinary but I don't wear make up to work cos you can't polish a turd I don't care enough to block my pores!

Wearing makeup =/= looking like an oompa loompa. Not if you're doing it right anyway.

I never wear orange make up only go for the pale shades so i never look like an oompa loompa ( i have pale skin). But i have worked with loads of oompa loompa's. Its like the orange fake tan, yuk. I do think some people would look better if they toned down the foundation and chose a more natural foundation that suits their skin tone.

I really do hate foundation marks left on clothes in shops.

I have to say though, I am genuinely surprised by the replies saying that people have it in their contracts. I wouldn't have thought that was allowed in a society that's moving towards equality.

Well I think it's pushing it by putting it into a contract. But regards equality it is pretty much the same as not letting men have beards or longish hair. Women wouldn't usually be told to have their hair cut or to shave their upper lip .

Personally, I wear a small amount of make up most days, I have very good skin (someone said earlier that only people with bad skin wear it??) but I feel better with a little make up and my hair neat.

It depends, personally I prefer a girl to wear make-up on a night out but in moderation, men would prefer somebody that doesn't use fake tan or look like a racoon. Heavy make-up in work or day to day situations is a massive turn-off

My mate is in the Gardai by the way and he knows a female Gardai that slaps the make-up and has pink hair on patrol, yet he's not allowed grow a beard or sideburns - crazy

That's BS, I wear make up but have very good skin it just improves my overall skin tone and makes me feel better. Its pyschological rather than physical.

Im not allowed to wear it for work.
Sometimes when i look really tired id like to be able to wear it.
As a result i only ever wear make up if im out at night which is so rare these days!!!

I would take the phrase "have to" with a pinch of salt.

They almost certainly mean feel like they have to.

They might simply be a part of that very large group of people who don't have perfect skin, lips etc.

It shouldn't matter but unfortunately sometimes it does.

I can understand this feeling in some circumstances especially where a certain 'look' is preferred - try going in to a beauticians and counting the amount of staff who don't have orange faces and spiders hanging out of their eyes for example.

Plenty of other examples too obviously.

I wouldn't wear it to work - I might do for a client meeting

I like wearing it and putting it on for nights out or whatever but my skin feels all clogged if I've had it on more than a few hours. It also looks better when I don't wear makeup much

When you see it up close I find makeup repulsive. I don't get it at all.

I'd say (well I hope!) the majority of women are able to do their makeup properly and know not to go too orange! Although, you do see this quite often. It baffles me...do they not have friends to tell them that they look like crap?!!! I wear fake tan too (on nights out...couldn't go without it) but I think I'm fairly good at keeping on the right side of orange. My friends would definitely tell me if I was oompa loompa, as they have in the past!

I can't remember who she was, but I remember this girl I knew and she had so much makeup on, I could see a visible change in her skin colour around her neck where her makeup stopped and her normal skin colour began. Now this wasn't a subtle change either, but she had far too much on.

IMHO, less is often more when it comes to makeup on girls. I remember that one, Sophie Reade from last years Big Brother. She is some sort of glamour model and she's often done up to the nines with makeup. But I seen several episodes of BB when it showed her first thing in the morning with no makeup on and she looked 10 times better.

She also looked much better after 3 months in BB than she did when she went in (she had put on about a stone or so in weight).

Hmmmm. She's a pretty girl. But I think she looks much better WITH makeup.

When I worked in a local supermarket I had to wear make up everyday.

It was not written into my contract but it saved me from every old fart telling me:

-Oh are you feeling alight luv, you look a bit under the weather!
-Jaysus! Were you out on the tear last night?
    -Are you sick?

    Yeah I'm a right minger! \o/

    :pac:

I don't understand the point of make up tbh. It's like a prisoners dilemma, if everyone wears it, the playing field levels out again (the hot people remain hot, the not so hot stay not so hot etc etc) except now everyone's used a lot of time and effort!

Not quite. Sometimes the hot people get it wrong and look bad. Sometimes the not so hot get it right and look hot. It's awfully complex. Whoever said beauty is skin deep was lying.

You know what they say. Beauty is skin deep, ugly goes to the bone.

Make up = self esteem for a lot of girls! One of the main reasons they wear it imo
