Guys, spare a thought for conjoined twins Hassan and Hussein and their family as the 2 'little fighters' undergo their separation operation in Great Ormonde Street hospital later today

While most of us moan about the economy, politics, bank and other sh!t, other people have far bigger concerns

    Best of luck little guys
Conjoined twins Hassan and Hussein Benhaffaf from Cork are undergoing surgery to separate them at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London.
Hassan and Hussein are now four months old and thriving and doctors who have been closely monitoring their progress have determined this to be the optimum time to perform the marathon separation.
The surgery, which is scheduled to last more than 20 hours, was due to begin at 8.30am.

It is being led by Consultant Neonatal and Paediatric Surgeon Edward Kiely, who has been managing cases of conjoined twins at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London since the 1980s. Mr Kiely is originally from Cork.
Mr Kiely has declined to comment on the operation, but he has said that in cases like this where doctors have the opportunity to plan the surgery and the twins are stable, the chances of both surviving are high.
The twins and their parents, Azzedine and Angie, have been in London preparing for the surgery for the past two-and-a-half weeks.
The family have appealed for people to remember them in their thoughts and prayers today.
An update on the condition of the twins is not expected from Great Ormond Street Hospital before tomorrow morning.
Angie Benhaffaf says the family has been overwhelmed by the support they have received since Hassan and Hussein's birth and has written a poem for her children.

To be honest, in the grand scheme of things an economic crisis is a far bigger deal than these kids' lives.

That kind of thinking brought about the economic crisis in the first place.

Yes, it goes to show how successful the US propaganda machine have been that now even an Arab name means terrorist.
Isn't that plain racism, that being Arab means terrorist?

Anyway, back on topic - good luck H&H.

Yes, it's almost as bad as hearing someone's name and automatically assuming it means that person is of a certain ethnicity.

in other news, arab arrested for discrimination. Assuming gentleman named Paddy O'Shea was irish.

I thought this would also be about terrorists and that this would be another rag head bashing thread.

I hope these little guys have a successful operation!

Well, Muslim != Arab. So assuming someone is Arab when they have a Muslim name is racism, yes.

No, no. Just the irony of someone trying to take the moral high ground about 'racist assumptions' before dropping not one but two clangers themselves.... (a) assuming that the previous posters were linking terrorism and Arabs, the first person to link the two directly was the one complaining about racist assumptions and (b) assuming that the kids involved are of Arab heritage based on the names alone, another rather dodgy generalisation.

well I saw the funny side.

Come on folks, joke elsewhere but this is a serious operation for the twins.

Hoping that it'll be a success and a speedy recovery for the twins

They are a family that lives in Ireland. This operation is very risky. And there is a high chance that people related to or very close to this family will see this thread. That's why maybe we shouldn't joke about it.
