    finally got xbox live into the gaff! Had to set up a new profile on my xbox though - wouldnt use my current one so lost all my gamepoints! Unless theres a way to transfer them

    Why do you have to switch GamerTags?
    If you were using one offline that was already taken when you switched to online it should ask you want to change your name, right?

    I think what happened was

    I bought my xbox, and had a certain user name on it. Played a few games, got a few points here and there. I remember going onto an xbox forum site and using my hotmail email addy along with a user name Trilla83.

    So when i went to set up xbox live (about 1.5 years later!) it wouldnt let me use my xbox user name with that email address, and when i went to use another email address it wouldnt let me. Got errors like try another domain (I used live.ie, gmail and hotmail.com again even).

    So in the end I used the Trilla83 and signed up to xbox live, with 0 gamepoints.
