First thing to do is search for power leaks.
Plug out everything in your house and see if the meter is still moving.
If not then start plugging things back in one at a time, but dont NOT turn them on. Leave the fridge until last.
If the meter starts moving again then whatever you plugged in has a constant draw for some reason.
Don't leave things on standby, they still use power, even if only a little.

    Hello all,

We're having a few issues with Electricity, Our bills have begun Rising (as we move towards summer) there are very few things left turned on and we've got oil heating rarely use the immersion.

Could anyone recommend anything we or ESB can do to review this?

    Thanks.

Firstly, due to the exception cold weather ground temperatures have been close to freezing since December and only now are starting to rise. the water coming into your home is at ground temperature, so the extra energy required to heat water for imersion, kettle, washing machine, diswasher etc etc is quite substantial.

As we get into summer, ground temps rise to about 14 degrees.

You can organise a FREE survey from ESB under the halo schem - details here http://www.esb.ie/main/sustainability/about-halo.jsp

And you can alo simply switch your billing to bord gais or airtricity and this will save you 10%-14% for the next 12 months. - There is no restriction whatsoever for switching, doesn't matter if you are renting, in for just 3 months, selling or live in a mansion. - a 2 minute phone call or web visit to www.thebigswitch.ie or www.airtricity.ie will giev you the savings.

One point everyone forgets about in winter especially the one we have just had - the water temperature coming into the house has been at an average of 3 degrees since early December. In the summer this increases to 12-14 degrees.

The amount of extra electricity to heat from 3 degrees is quite substantial compared to that needed from 12 degrees.

Think of uses - every washing machine wash, every dishwasher wash, every cup of tea, every power shoer, every imersion heat.

It all adds up and there will be a few shock bills coming. - though at least their softened by lower prices this year & bord gais / airtricity.

I've read through the whole of this thread because I'm in very similar situation right now with my bills and this post above really jumped out!
what is the one different thing that happened this year??
    COLDEST WINTER EVER!
