Drinking Alone

Just having a nice bottle of Erdinger Weisbier here before bed... Sometimes there's nothing nicer at the end of the day than a nice cold beer!

Anyway, as I'm sipping away here I'm thinking to myself: "what are peoples opinions of drinking alone?" - I know some people see it as sad. I just like a good beer..

The O/H only drinks on a very rare occasion, and never at home; so if I fancy a couple of bottles on a Friday or Saturday night I'm drinking on my own. Now don't get me wrong; I'm only having ONE beer now and then heading to bed, and when I do get a couple of bottles at a weekend or whatever I'll pick up a 6-pack - which will do me Friday, Sat & Sunday. So I'm not talking about sitting here getting hammered by myself.

I know lads who would drink a fair amount of beer on a night out in the pub but who rarely drink when at home.. Personally I enjoy the taste of a nice beer, and I like trying different ones from time to time.

So what about Boardsies?? What are your opinions of 'drinking alone' Do you enjoy a beer while watching a film/reading a book/looking up T'internet? Or would you NEVER even consider drinking by yourself?

I do the exact same thing steviecakes, get a few bottles of something nice or something I haven't had before. The most I'd ever have in a night would be 3 (unless I'm going out). Nothing like it ;)

I normally drink alone, around once a week. I think its safer. When I drink with people I usually mouth off and become obnoxious and regret everything I say the next day.

I'm having a few cans at home now and the house is empty. I don't see anything wrong with it tbh.

but then again, I'm on the scratch, I'd like to think with a job I wouldn't. Hopefully...

Look at the standards of posts here around the 3am mark, lottsa drinkers methinks so never really alone :)

I enjoy sitting and have a beer on my own, maybe not in the house, I like to pick myself up the Irish Catholic and the local paper, then head for the quietiest bar I can find, and sit in the corner of it to read my paper, have a drink and just sit and relax and have a good think about the present moment.

I dont see the problem sitting on ones own having a beer, we all need a break from people every now and again.

Nothing wrong with pint by yourself.

Drinking on your own is like masturbating in the company of others.

    Frowned upon.

Technically there is nothing wrong wtih it at all, but society says there is. Well at least it used to. People would often comment on the guy that comes in for a pint on his own, that he is sad, must have no friends etc etc. The reality of it is, he just wants to spend time on his own in a pub with his pint. It's one mans way of relaxing.

I rather smoke a small joint than have a can or bottle. Each to their own ;)

I wouldn't ever really bother drinking alone.

Not a big drinker, I would enjoy a couple of cans in the company of someone else who wasn't drinking but thats about it.

Well, I would get p!ssed on quite a small amount of alcohol, I enjoy my own company but I don't want to hang around with drunk me. I'm quite boring -I would just go from hero to zero too quick and then the day is over.

Every now and again I enjoy a few bottles of beer/cans after a long day at work. Usually throw on a movie and chill on the couch for the evening. Nothing wrong with it in my opinion. One thing I do notice though is the amount I'd drink - 3 or 4 if I'm on my own but if a mate has called over you can at least double that. I drink faster in company for some reason.

    Depends what I'm doing.
If I'm up late watching something(UFC, boxing, ice hockey etc.) I'll have 5 or 6, same if I'm playing the auld XboxLive(Jeez I'm sad:o).
But on a normal Friday or Saturday on me own I'd have a can or two.

    But never any spirits.

Drinking alone in a pub? No. Did that literally once: mate said he couldn't make it, and I was already drinking, so meh, I stayed for one or two more. Bored. The old people drinking alone are mainly married men enjoying the quietness without their wife/kids/etc being around.

Drinking at home, sometimes, but mainly I'd be talking to the lads online, whilst gaming, so not really alone.

I'd be more likely to drink tea if I was alone, then I would drink alcohol.

Yeh, I would definitely drink more in company.....but even then I would have to pace myself, I wouldn't be able to 'keep up' with other people -I wouldn't even bother trying!!!

No spirits or wine for me either, just beer.......slowly administered !!!

A little drop of wine, a beer, whats wrong with it on your own? Just once you're not throwing yourself a party EVERY night

I used to if I was working late getting home around 1 or 2 at night have a bottle of Heineken waiting for me really cold and it was beautiful

one always did it but it was once in a blue moon

I can't imagine why anybody would see a problem with somebody drinking on their own. Only time I'd be concerned is if you're getting off your face drunk very often as that's generally not a great sign. Same could be said if you were doing it in a pub in my opinion.

I don't drink and never have so I haven't actually experienced either myself.
