Anyone know how well a usb 3 external hard drive will work using an expresscard like this?

USB 3 is 5GBPS while expresscard is max 2.5GBPS. Obviously this won't be making the most of USB 3's potential, but it seems like it might be a better option than Firewire 800 for video editing purposes.

    Any opinions?

Don't most external drives max out writing at 25 MB/s (200 Mbps)? If so then the faster interface won't help a mechanically spun drive.

pointless exercise unless you're hooking it up to the most insane external SSD raid setup

What about an sata drive with an esata expresscard?

I'll have a spare sata drive soon so all I need is an enclosure and the expresscard.
