I fly out on the 16th of April to south east Asia,my passport expires in July 2010 this will not allow me to travel as i need to have 6months from the expiry date when i leave.
I can get 2/3 of my money back before this coming Friday after that date i will get no refund unless i take a chance and gamble that the dispute between the government and the CPSU will be resolved and the 50,000 passport backlog sorted.
From what i seen on the 6.01 news the out look is pretty grim.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    .

Is that a condition of entry or a sort of visa requirement?

It sounds a bit strange..not sniping,i'm genuinley curious.

My passport has over a year left on it, you can borrow it if you want. Just don't go slipping over to Dhubai while you're away.

S.E. Asia was one of the best experiences of my life. If the risk is you don't get to go at all I'd claw back what I could and reschedule.

You poor fecker, OP, my heart goes out to you.

How long ago did you put the new application in? Maybe it'd be near the top of the backlog?

I should have checked before i payed,i think its just to assure Thailand/Vietnamese governments that you have no intentions your going to stay there. The people at ebookers were fairly helpful but you cant get a visa for either country if the expiry date is within 6month of you beginning your trip. Some airlines are enforce it others don't,but if i can get a visa i guess im up ****s creek with no paddle.

Get yourself down to the Israeli embassy, there's a two for one offer on EU passports at the moment.

I think that's the best plan, just spent 170 on getting the shots last Saturday but that was moola i had just won in a casino which softens the blow.

Get onto those Mossad fellas, they can get things , especially passports. You may have to do some light assassination work in return though.

I dunno but would it help if you applied to the irish embassy in thailand?
Or you could just wait this thing out and hope it comes good for you..you might wanna head into the passport office if you have the time and see if you can progress matters.

Feck and you're due to go in about three weeks? It might be a better idea to retrieve some of the cost, go on a cheapy holiday and put the rest of the money towards the trip next year. Sorry Drdeadlift. :(

Actually, the embassy idea isn't a bad one. What do you have to lose by trying?

I'd do what admiralofthefleet suggested. Take a day off work and pop down very early.

If that fails then get your refund on Friday.

And with a year to save, you might end up with a better holiday next time. Not much of a consolation though.

Doesn't your "new" passport have to be 1 or 3 months old before you can use it anyway?
