    Nothing to touch it anywhere.

i've been there many times and its a great beach, but haha i just had to laugh at the way you said its the most beautiful beach on this planet, i've been to the beach from the movie the beach, that place is amazing or the main beach in langkawi, theres many amazing beaches around the world, irelands best beach wouldn't come near the top 1000 in the world

    Strangest recommendation yet!!!

    - Must go down there tomorrow with a Busload of People I really don't like.....

Its quite a unique place. The gradient of the beach is high & there is some weird wave bouncing thing going on with the shape of the bay. Net result, huge waves, deadly dangerous beach! Not entirely sure of the science but it happens.

I go there when the big storms come in, is fantastic. Last time a conger eel washed up!

On a calm summers day I waded out, not a wave in sight, up to my knees then 3 waves pushed me 20 feet or so without any warning.

Wrong Place! me & geography eh...

    This is the place

    Yes you did miss out

This is not a good story for me, but sure what the fcuk.

I was on Portmarknock beach with all my mates from Swords back in '88 (we were all 15) and eying up these knockout birds in bikinis and one in particular was gorgeous, stunning, knockout.

All my mates being good looking guys I knew one of them one pull her as usual.

Anyway, they sent her mate over and the hot one said she wanted me

I wrote my address and my folks address on a piece of paper (no mobiles then kids :p) and sent it over. She wrote to me all summer and even sent me photos of her in her Bikini.

Turns out the reason she liked me was cause she was a rocker and my long blond hair did it for her :D

So we finally arranged a meet at the Point (Aerosmith gig) and as we all met (her mates and mine) I notice a strange look on her face and all of sudden as we were all walking in, she disappeared.

Then one of her mates came running back out and apologised and said:

"Aimee says sorry, but she said you'd looked better at the beach.." .. :(

    Wimminz be heartbreakers.

Still love Portmarnock Beach though .. :pac:

Ha ha, great story Outlaw Pete!
At least you got the pictures, plus a great gig, i think i was actually at that one myself. Some poor bloke fell over the balcony, it was a death trap in those days, no safety barrier or anything, he was actually killed.
Just a little aside for you there folks, and now back to the beaches!

White Bay near Roches Point in Cork - my all time favourite. There is a bit of a walk down from the car park, but it's well worth it

I arrived in Barleycove Beach in Cork last Summer on a recommendation from a Local and was absolutely stunned on arrival.

I think its my favourite yet in Ireland, there's something so different about it from the moment you head across that Pontoon Bridge to get there, to the feeling of being of a kind of Beach Island in the Bay.

    - So what do ye think, is there nicer ones in Ireland because if there is I want to find out where exactly and then visit them soon!!!

Ballybunion is very special definitely, visited last Sunday.....

Towering Cliffs, a Castle, a rocky outcrop extending into the Bay to go out and see the really big waves crashing in, a few good Cliff paths/decent walks, nice little Town etc. Local Montessori made a grey Play Doh Bill Clinton and put it outside the Cop Shop!!!

    - There's rumours of Apartments being inappropriately close to the Beach though???

Anyone know the latest on this?

    - Hopefully the Locals desire to sell many copies of the Sun and even more ice cream cones doesn't win the day......

Inver Beach in Donegal was pretty nice as was the whole area, those razor clam thingys were in abundance there.

Cant believe nobody has mentioned the beach in Ventry Co. Kerry!!

Last summer on the days when it was actually hot, I was down there and just sitting in the shallow waters of the bay was just bliss. Has to be one of the nicest beaches in the country:

Plus its one of the safest.

I think the best beaches are in Donegal. There's also one on the north coast of Derry that's really nice but I don't know the name. You can drive onto it if that means anything!

What this thread has taught me (although I already suspected it).
We have some of the nicest scenary/beaches in the world. Mostly clean, pristine swimming areas in a whole host of coastal areas.
If only we could roof the place or at least that climate change be good to us, we wouldnt have to head foreign via Ryanair.

Carrickfinn in Donegal is fabulous, also love Brittas when we get the weather (which isn't very often)

Im going to have to agree with Outlaw Pete here and say Portmarnock. Its top quality during the summer.

Pity Dollymount doesnt have a flag anymore. Would have made Dublin the only capital in Europe with a flagged beach in the city limits.

Donegal has some great beaches, lots of them mentioned before. I'd forgot about this one, Stragill, just past Buncrana, quieter than Lisfannon and far nicer. The beach itself is nice, but the walk on the cliff towards Buncrana is spectacular.

In Ireland i still have a fondness for Brittas Bay as my Dad used to drive us down there on many Sundays when we were children .

Donegal is the place. I was there last summer (during the sunny couple of hours) it was unreal and empty. I will be back there again
