Cleaning the externals of an AEG

Hi guys, just wondering whats the best way to clean the externals of an AEG. I'm assuming its the ould magical silicone spray but im just wondering if their are other products that are recomended.

On the metal externals I use WD40, stops rust. And on plastic externals a damp cloth usually works.
