What format is an older DVD player likely to play?

Hi guys, need to convert FLV file to play in DVD player that's probably a bit old.

But don't have access to it until I get to play the file.

Is it more likely to play an AVI, Windows Media or Mpeg of some sort and if it's the latter, which mpeg format?

convert it to an avi with divx as the codec - this is the most commonly supported type. but as a back up i would also convert it to "regular" dvd in case the dvd player wont do avi. some older ones will ONLY play proper DVDs

What do you mean by "dvd". Only have options for avi, mpeg, etc.

you need software like Nero, Roxio etc to convert the flv files to "real" dvd files. avi etc are all compressed down formats, but not every dvd player can read them. if you burn it as a real dvd then any dvd will play it.

only bad thing is nero, roxio et al all cost money. most computers come with some dvd software loaded on that should be able to do the trick
