I clicked on some website while looking for college stuff, and that "are you sure...potentially dangerous blah blah" notice came up, so I clicked 'cancel', but it went on to the site anyway, and then the whole "YOUR SYSTEM IS INFECTED" came up and despite that windows virus thing asking did i want to remove the virus and me clicking "yes", nothing happened.
So I just shut down my laptop by holding the power button, turned it on again...all seems normal except two icons on my desktop...one which looks like a duplicate of my microsoft word document (thay my project was on) except two of the letters are messed up. And i dont know what the other one is. I havent treid opening them at all, dont worry.
Can I delete these or what? i'm doing a scan atm with avira.

also, download the free trial of eset and scan. It's by far the best antivirus solution out there.

If you need anti virus use the microsoft one for free, it's easy on your pc http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/ it dosn't cost a penny;)

if you need to remove old anti virus and your having trouble use app remover http://www.appremover.com/opswat-appremover-thoroughly-remove-your-security-applications

    To do all this right,

1st run malware bytes anti malware I linked to above

2nd run app remover and remove any old security programs.

    3rd run miscrosft security essentials.

your computer should be all better then.

RELAX, theres nothing wrong, that "YOUR SYSTEM IS INFECTED" is normal on most of those sites, that "windows virus thing asking" popup would have also been part of the website. I've gotten loads simply because I have Windows pop-up blocker set too low. So long as you have a good antivirus package installed your fine.

the reason for that duplicate of your Word document, its that Word automatically saved what was on screen during the shutdown process (its a handy built in-Word feature), and the second is the backup copy, probably in rtl format, the letters being messed up is just luck of the draw

I wouldn't be complacent, so just in case read this sticky:

"I think I have a virus" - Please Read & Try BEFORE Posting (Updated 04/06/09)

Do as much on that as you can and then post the relevant info in a new thread in the Virus & Malware Removal forum.

ASJ112 will help you only once you do the above.
