It really must be very difficult to be someone who has to ask questions as to why you are doing something for every bloody movement

No one asked for my opinion but here it is; sit back cos life is cool

It strikes me as odd how for one day so many will go out of their way to live up to our most negative stereotypes, but ultimately i'm not patriotic and don't really care.

I can't count how many times I have heard English people say "I bet they're not partying on Sr. George's day in Dublin"

Why can you not count up to 5?

I've never heard English people say that? Why would Irish people party on St. George's Day?

    stereotypes are fun.

simple answer, may not be your opinion, doesn't make your opinion any less valid

but there's plenty who enjoy being a stereotype. and as long as its not hurting anyone there's no valid argument against it

I don't care if people want to pretend to be gombeens for a day. I just wish we had a proper serious Independence Day like most other Republics. St. Patricks Day is lost to drunken Paddywhackery.

Yeah, that's what we need, another day dedicated to Irish drunkeness.
We already have Paddy's Day and Good Friday.
    Do we need another one?

The stereotype or the behaviour associated with the stereotype?

I don't know for certain, but i would be surprised if there was a single day of an Irish year that reaps more arrests for drunken disorderly behaviour and random assaults. So, it is hurting some people, i guess.

Again, i'm not arguing against it, i just find the mentality behind it a bit odd.

Yeah - it's not like he did something cool like get rid of all the snakes we once had & all the fossils of them too, to wipe out their existence entirely.

dont know where this gettin drunk rubbish came from, up until ~25 years ago pubs werent allowed open on st. patricks day, now its a given.

I personally think its a national disgrace people getting ****faced but alas, if you go against the grain your a whinger!

Over indulgance on alcohol every Good Friday could be solved by simply removing the restrictions on its sale. Some people will do some things simply because they are not allowed.
