Well no, just a holiday. I was simply pointing out that we don't have much hope if Eire found a goldmine of oil - it be gone in a matter of weeks.

    "a goldmine of oil"??

    *sighs*

You do realise we have a population of just over 4.4million people. Germany's population is 82,000,000 and Russia's 141,800,000.

For a country who has been exploited and damaged by Britain for hundreds of years, Ireland is doing mighty and has recovered very well.

Also, you might want to back up your post with a valid argument if you're trying to make a point.

Well considering we weren't touched by two world wars but by 1960 still found ourselves poorer than Germany which had been completely destroyed and partitioned 15 years previous, I don't think we did THAT well!

We all know what the Germans did with the underclasses. Don't go there.

Also, you'd need some severe provocation for Germany to get involved in an all-out war.

Yes, but when it comes to drunkeness, we are the superpower.

According to 1998's Top 10 of Everything book, we're good at eating corn flakes and drinking tea too

Well in fairness, goldmines tend not to be large compared to say, an oilfield, so he does have a point. If there was a goldmines of oil, it would be gone quite quickly.

Stands to reason - you need some soakage.

I am a lover, not a fighter anyway.

Plus if we are going to war with anyone, it's going to be those Vatican City fcukers.

And those bastards don't stand a chance.

OooOOoo 1500th post, landmark (of sorts).

Completely unaffected by the World Wars?!?!? You don't know your Irish history very well. Bombings in Dublin in 1941? Many Irish soldiers went off to serve in the army in the wars too.

    Don't post baseless 'facts'.

Marshall plan? For fear of the commies getting a foothold the yanks poured billions into propping up German industry and infrastucture. That may have helped them along not to mention their vast natural resources.

It would be awesome if the USSR came back and took over the EU. Thankfully I speak German/Russian and English.

We're not neutral, we're a non aligned nation. Being neutral means you can defend your borders, we can't do this as we don't give enough resources to our defence forces.

It certainly would not. The Soviet Union fell for a reason.

They've been quite good recently though. The Russians were at it a couple of years ago.

No it wouldn't. This is Ireland. First we'd have to set up a quango to get tenders from companies to investigate the oil field, then we'd have to get their report through the dail, then set up another quango to deal with the findings, then find someone like Shell to take the oil for free, wait for planning permission to be lodged, objected to, appealed, then passed, and then the inevitable protests from locals who live near the oil field.

Sure it'd be years before the first drop was even seen, let alone used.

    In your opinion, that is.

In your eyes, hitler/stalin/castro were bad men. It's the opposite for me.
