hope everyone is enjoying the tests, books and ds play as much as I am......I'll be ready for countdown at this rate. Have found out I'm going to need to invest in lasereye surgery though if I get through the tests. Let's hope I get to that stage!

I haven't actually had time to revise at all yet :\ I'm in my final semester of uni and I'm working like 5 days per week as well (it's night work, which majorly sucks and screws up your entire life lol :(). I'm getting quite worried though as the time is going pretty fast! Won't be long before I'm sitting in the test wishing I'd done more revision =( I'm sooo crap at data analysing too =(

i'm in the same boat. Final year Computing student due to grad this summer - no jobs at all out there. Working 24 hours a week until midnight on top of uni workload. Feel like ive wasted 4 years of my life lol. I did a very specific degree with a purpose rather than the likes of politics/drama etc because there were supposed to be jobs out there. looks like the credit crunch put stop to that

So are we all doing our IST during march???????????????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 159 ✭✭fefe5

    Hey folks,
Read most of the posts on this...took a good while, but thought it was about time I left a post myself :P

Did IST last year and I was totally unprepared for what to expect, ended up failing it by a few :(

Have this years one in a few weeks, hopefully it will go a bit better... least this time I know just how hard it really is!

So are we all doing our IST during march???????????????

Some might run into April. We were told to expect to wait up to 7 weeks for results :( Assessment centres will take place in May and June.

Aye I've got mine in under 2 weeks  I literally haven't looked at anything!! I've had too much uni work :( again, the bane of my life!

When I was doing mine, best thing I thought was to use the Nintendo (?) DS Brain Training. Decent little bits of logic. Obviously the practice test that is on the recruitment website as well.

However, my racing tip is not to spend ages thinking about a question that you don't quite understand! Get through the questions at a decent pace, but obviously don't rush yourself either. You might find coming to the end that you still haven't answered those hard questions, then just estimate (or guess when it really push really comes to shove).

All this whilst I was at uni (though I hated it)- I passed so I must have atleast got something right. (Though not a 2010 test I have to declare!)

Anybody heard yet how many ppl have applied this time round?? In fact maybe best not knowing!!

Did a dry run to the site of my IST today.........good job I did........would have been late.........need to leave a lot earlier.

    IST date fast approaching!

Hello - new to this forum...I was addicted to reading other peoples views / hopes in joining the PSNI. Is anyone else family completly against them joing or hoping too? A Police Officer is a job that i've ALWAYS wanted to do more than anything in the world, especially in the PSNI but family members are not on side making things a lot more difficult. :):):):)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 34 forestgrump

yes my family are against me joining but not trying to stop me but worry about the dangers of the job...im from the south and some stuff in the papers etc lately arent helping to change their opinion.

most of my family against it because of the dangers but a few are of the view that if i get in im not to grace *inserts hometown here* with my shadow again. stick em, i dont need their permission but it would be nice to know i had their support :(

My family 100% backing me up though if this was years ago and the R.U.C. and not the P.S.N.I. I think I would have got a less favourable reaction.

My family are strangely ok with me wanting to do this, although I think their view might be that the chances are so slim that it might never happen that their not too concerned. If I ever was so lucky to get the almighty call I think the worries from them would start to emerge. Although I do have a cousin who wasn't best pleased when he heard I was applying but thats just because he's a bad wee rip who's always in bother

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 34 forestgrump

pluginbaby: ul never please all the people all of the time and especially not if you do end up becoming a psni officer its something we'll all have to adapt to! so youv just got to go with your instincts and give it a go!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 107 ✭✭unistudent2009

My family are ok with it. I'm sure my mum worries but that's her job. I worry about what to tell old school friends etc that I meet in the future what to say I do. I don't want them knowing (to blab to everyone) but I've never had a real career that I can lie about. I'm not fussed bout what I say I just don't have a strong cover story.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3 alabama2010

My family are "OK" with it on paper. They say I have their support but it's a taboo subject they don't like talking about. My support comes from other people I know who are applying. There's me and 3 of my friends all applied at the same time and its a wee network of support! Two of them have applied before as well... It'd be cool if we all got through and into the same garnerville course (dream on, I know) but for the moment we're all helping each other with confidence; timing the practice tests, going to the gym etc...

Confidence in my opinion is the most important part. If you go into that IST thinking you'll fail, then you're right.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3 alabama2010

Anyone know how long you'll have to wait after the IST to find out if you've passed?
A few employers only focus on those who are successful, and unsuccessful applicants won't be informed that they are so. Hoping PSNI aren't the same!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 107 ✭✭unistudent2009

Everyone gets a leter informing them if they have passed or not. I think in my IST they said april 20th or something like that!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3 alabama2010

    oh ok fair enough... thanks!
My IST's not till april anyway so i'll have a bit longer to wait methinks

I'd safely say that you will get your results much faster, last year i had mine about 2 weeks after sitting it. it was towards the wrapping up of the IST's.
