UPC Channel Choice - Old Chorus Cable Towns

UPC have been upgrading the coax cable here in Mullingar for the past 12 monts now, including running new fibre and linking into the existing MAN fibre as well as replacing vast sections of the old coax network and replacing the taps.

However, even on the new cable the digital box still only finds 89 television channels and 35 radio channels. We have no ITV2 & 3 as well as none of the +1 channels etc. Also HD is not available.

Anyone know when or if towns such as Mullingar which have new infrastructure, will actually be able to avail of the full channel line up as well as the HD Services. Surely they have future proofed the new network to deliver the HD and planned On Demand services?

It was mentioned somewhere else, that the old analog channels take up a lot of room on the network so could this be preventing the availibility of the missing channels and if so, when do they intend to switch off the analog.

Perhaps the project is not complete here and all services will be enabled once it is, but i do notice HD availibility is not present in the majority of rural towns which already have phone and broadband, on the UPC online availibility checker.

How many analogue channels are there? It sounds like they have upgraded the network but not the headend.

18 Channels In Total on the analogue service here but instead of 3e and Comedy Central,as advertised, we seem to have 2 channels broadcasting the French station TV5.

I did hear that they were moving the headend from one location in town to another central point, but not sure if this is true.

UPC will probably have to do a box swap before they switch to the standard UPC TV feed.

I have a current box with up to date software installed, and a new type card which they changed last year:

The network is only broadcasting 89 television channels and 35 radio channels.

That is surprising! It could be worth calling them.

Perhaps the new network isn't live yet.

I'm sure they will eventually swap the feed to the standard UPC one. It sound very similar to Naas which can now receive all services .

Finally got switched onto the new feed today so have the same channel line up as Dublin and other large towns now. Next is the wait for HD now I suppose!!
