    British Airways cabin crew strike

We are extremely disappointed that Unite, the union that represents the majority of British Airways (BA) cabin crew, has announced that it intends to take strike action on the following dates:
    • 20, 21 and 22 March 2010
    • 27, 28, 29 and 30 March 2010
We are very sorry for the stress and disruption Unite's decision will cause.
We are currently considering our response to this strike threat and what action we will need to take to minimise disruption.
All our flights are operating normally at the moment.
We will be updating this page with further details as soon as it is available.

Call them now, tell them you want to go on the 31st! Call them before all others do!

BA will still operate about 70% of flights, the long haul flights taking priority.

With the dates mentioned, the worst case scenario for most people will be to book a night at a cheap airport hotel before coming home.

    @the Bull :D:o

but hey, I called BA right after the announcement, and the lady told me, that it won't be a problem to rebook me on the 24th ---- so what?! :p

I'm due to fly out the 26th. I wonder will they make changes to the flights on days where they aren't striking.

you dont want to be travelling on the 24th, planes and crew will be out of position so less will be operating correctly!! I just cannot believe that this is happening!

you can now cancel and obtain a full refund on your ba flight?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,199 ✭✭✭G-Money

Seems you can get a refund now until they announce their new dates:

Your options once we announce which flights we intend to operate

If your flight is still operating
Flights from London City to and from New York (JFK) and all longhaul flights to and from London Gatwick will continue to operate normally and any changes to bookings on these flights are subject to the original fare rules.
For all other flights, if you are booked to travel between 19 and 31 March 2010 and wish to change your travel plans you will be able to:
    • Rebook to travel on another BA flight on the same route up to 355 days in the future at no extra charge, subject to availability.
    • Refunds will not be allowed unless the fare rules allow.
If you are holding a BA booking for a hotel, a car, a transfer or an experience during the strike dates you will also be able to rebook this outside of the strike period for up to 355 days from the original date of travel. Rebookings are subject to availability and will be free of charge when rearranged on a like for like basis.

If your flight is cancelled due to strike action you will be able to:

    • Rebook onto another British Airways flight within 355 days of the original date of travel at no extra charge, subject to availability.
    OR
    • Rebook onto another British Airways flight to/from the nearest alternative airport (for example, if booked to/from Boston you could rebook to/from Philadelphia or New York) at no extra charge, subject to availability. Any additional costs to get to/from the alternative airport is at your own expense.
    OR
    • Cancel your booking and obtain a refund to the original form of payment.
We have also started to work with our franchise, codeshare, alliance partners and other global airlines who have flights on the same routes as us during the strike period. This will enable us to provide additional rebooking options onto their services.

If you are holding a BA booking for a hotel, a car, a transfer or an experience booked in conjunction with a cancelled flight you will also be able to:
    • Rebook outside of the strike period for up to 355 days from the original date of travel. Rebookings are subject to availability and will be free of charge when rearranged on a like for like basis.
    OR
    • Cancel your ground booking and obtain a refund to the original form of payment.

Woo I'm flying on the 23rd. Missed it by a day, I am relieved. I bet Terminal 5 will be a nightmare though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 589 ✭✭✭killyourtv

They have to sort out which flights are going ahead and which flights are canceled, and they say that will take a few days.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,199 ✭✭✭G-Money

I might actually be able to change my flights now without getting stung financially, at least not very badly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 247 ✭✭Memnoch99

We miss it by a day going over thankfully but we are due to fly back on the last day of the strike so we will see what happens there I suppose.

I got offered a decent price with another airline. I'm going to phone Expedia when I get home from work and if I can get a full refund, I will take it and re-book with someone else.

British Airways website is now letting people get a refund or change their booking online.

Plus even though my outgoing flight is on the 26th it still says 'Subject to disruption'

Go to Manage my Booking and it will be there.

(unless it's only letting those who booked directly though ba.com do it)

I think if you booked through a travel agent, 3rd party or some other online site, then you have to go through them to change it, rather than BA.com. I just logged on and I couldn't change my dates or apply for a refund through BA.com. Cue a probably fruitless series of telephone calls to Expedia. Yer man couldn't get through to BA so is getting some backroom team to call on his behalf and then call me back.

I'm betting I will never hear from them.
