well, bbc news has announced there will be a press conf with UNITE at 1100 to announce dates so please, let us all pray, that they choosedates AFTER easter. Personally, I think they will strike for 10 days from 19th March. which means BA will ruin mania for many of us.

I am just glad I found a forum where other people understand what I am going through and how important WM is!!

I think I have now admitted defeat and do not think I am going.

This may be a stupid question say the strike hits one of your departure dates, and u decide to fly out with another carrier, the strike ends a few days before your return flight with BA. Can you come back on the BA flight seeing you have not travelled out on with BA. I ask this because it is return flights most of us has booked?

I'd imagine you could. I remember a few years ago i missed my outgoing flight and had to book a one way ticket to get where i was going. The airline told me i could still use the return flight i had previously booked to get back home.

Not thought about that, and how would a refund work. Would you get 50% back?

depending on the strike terms and conditions the airline bring out!! Normally, you wouldnt be able to miss your outbound and then just use your return. If you are a no show for your outbound flight then our system would cancel the return as you need to fly on both sectors. As your outbound would be cancelled you would either need to keep your ticket as a one way inbound or you can amend to another destination, i.e fly to L.A or chicago and then get a train/new flight to Phoenix? I will let you guiys know what the airline says as soon as strike dates are announced.

This is a quote taken from Sky News
The union has until Monday to announce action and must give seven days' notice of any walkouts - which, in any case, would not take place over Easter.

    False optimism?

I had discussions with Expedia about my flights a few days ago and they said I could only fly back on the return portion of the flight if I flew on the outgoing portion too. I don't know if strikes affect this situation though. I'm flying with BA as well and I think they said they checked with the airline. Although to be honest, I'm not 100% sure I believe them. I'd suggest you check yourselves with whoever you are booked through.

Easter is the weekend after Mania, a couple of days before you're due to fly home. I think we're booked to fly home on the 5th which is Easter Monday.

I think I may book a flight going out the tuesday before and come back 10 days later, safer that way? Oh my god, announcement is imminent!

ba travel insurance doesnt cover 'extreme circumstances' thats what they would class the strike as

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 112 ✭✭steveharley

so is anyone affected by this or is everyone ok?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 589 ✭✭✭killyourtv

The strike happens on my return flight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,473 ✭✭✭✭Super-Rush

What about BA travel insurance – will it cover strike activity?

If you purchased BA travel insurance prior to any strike dates being announced you will remain fully covered, subject to the terms, conditions and benefit levels of the policy purchased.

From BA FAQ. Link here http://www.britishairways.com/travel/strike-ballot-faq/public/en_ie?refevent=strikelhn_faq

It all depends on what level of cover you opted for.
