I pay but to be honest, the prices are ridiculous and I'm beginning to think about smuggling

    On smug.com, I think.

No, I'll pay full prices as I am aware they have to charge what they do

YOU post in AH, so YOU are in fact "AH" .

I hate that "rabble, rabble" sh*** people come out with referring to everyone who post here.

In essence, you are accusing yourself of rabbling.

I worked in a cinema for the better part of 4 years as normal staff and a supervisor and would never stop anyone bringing their own food in, well except for alcohol and fast food. The prices are ridiculous and anyone who wants to pay them, well thats up to the individual, but I'm not going to stop someone bringing in their own food. While I know they do not make a huge profits from the ticket sales themselves, the margins cinemas make on the food they sell is ridiculous. Granted if everyone brought in their own food they wouldn't be able to stay in business for very long, but there is still no excuse for the crazy prices.

Calm down there Pete, just messing is all. Put away the sheriff's badge and six shooter.

I'd bring some popcorn and a drink for myself. I've bought the odd thing there, but wouldn't make a habit of it. Wallet rape tbh.

Under €20 to get two adults and two kids tickets.

    Food came to... €28!

Bloody right I smuggle food in!

Thanks for not stopping me with my pick'n'mix bag.

Even though I know cinemas have to charge a little over the odds to stay afloat, the prices have no relation to reality. It's approached the point of diminishing returns, I think, where people are too skint/p1ssed off to pay take-the-mick money. I mean, Light House Cinema is able to charge just €1.50 (IIRC) for popcorn - this is still a big money-spinner, but you don't feel like an eejit for paying it.

I pay full whack about half the time on a pick'n'mix and maybe a slush puppy, more to try and keep a cinema going than anything else.

judging by the sweets section in boots beside the cinema in liffey valley on a saturday evening, everyone smuggles-does be cleared out. i get some days where i just want to pig out and dont care bout the price so ill get a popcorn, pick n mix and a bucket of watered down coke. other times ill go into boots, get a drink, a packet of haribo etc and thats it.

    Cans or bottles?

Open cans can be embarrassing in a cinema as people just hear: "CHEAP SKATE" when you crack it.

Cans I just wait for a loud part. Problems do arise if you break the seal to early and the film is 2+ hours.

What if you're bringing kids to a birthday party. You can be paying €5 for food for 10 kids aswell as their tickets

Getting a salt overdose with the expensive popcorn and balancing it out with a sugar overload of a large watered down coke. What else do you need!

I won't be smuggling any food for the premier of perrier's bounty in the Savoy on Wednesday :pac:

    Damn, hate seeing cinemas close.

Are they building a new one?

I work in a Cinema and our policy is you can bring in anything you like, so long as it doesnt smell (ie Mc Donalds or Pizza Hut etc)

As has been said, the prices are very high because the actual cinema gets next to nothing out of the admission tickets, selling sweets is how it can afford to stay open.

Theres rumours that they're gonna do it all up and reopen in a few months under new management. But theres also rumours that there's an uber cinema being built where woodies used to be so who knows! Its onlt Tallaght thats closing though...bloody typical!

Now where will i get my butter popcorn :(:(
